It's 1969, where the hell is my M14?

Having not heard anything about this mod prior to a week ago or so, I d/led it, installed it, and have been having fun playing it.

A few comments:

Sarge (Zeke) has the worst voice acting of any game or even mod that I have ever heard. It is so bad as to indicate poor judgement on whoever released this mod, particularly when compared to the much better quality of the other new dialogue. The voice, recording quality, and volume are all so bad that I have turned off voice reponse to orders (that voice is so bad that my girlfriend came into my office to complain about it). Merely having dull, flat, uninspired voice acting would have been a vast improvement.

While there are rough edges on the mod, all in all it is fun and much better than playing JA2 again. I am extremely jealous of the technical knowhow that was needed to produce this mod as I am an editor hound and enjoy designing new material for games.

I was not impressed with the documentation that accompanied the mod, but my standards are prety high as I write docs for users. There should have been a map that laid out the cities, bases, and AOs clearly. In addition, I know there are "locked" sectors that I need to find clues to unlock, and I can see the airbase north of the first base but cannot enter it. Thus I can guess that I must find something to learn how to unlock it, but I have no idea what I might need to look for (even conceptually) to do so. I assume that unlocking the airbase will allow me to get to other AOs, but there has been no mention of the airbase or why I cannot get to it that I recall.

As some other poster has stated in annother thread, requiring the player to steal a radio from a church instead of issuing one to them is poor design work.

I am seeing on thing that is a bad sign for the future of this mod on my HD; the endless jungle firefights in sectors that are all heavy jungle. Yes, I know they were a major part of that conflict, but the fun factor is severely limited when I have to belly crawl endlessly through the jungle. Yes it is realistic, but it is also boring. I was in the Marines, and I can tell you that there is a lot that is boring in military life, even in the field, and a good game skirts around those parts.

I grade this mod (admitting that I am only at the beginning) at a healthy B: Has a few problems but is fun to play.

You could of course make your own Mod and we'll see if it is perfect or not. Wink

Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that the mindless fanbois prohibited thoughtful commmentary. Please excuse me for having an opinion, I'll leave you to your witless adulation now...

I should have realized that a small forum like this was likely to be the home of people who resented anyone who doesn't toe the party line.

Witless adulation, huh ? I didn't even finish this mod. My point was that making a mod (especially in the ja2 world) is quite hard, so you can't expect to have flawless audio files or fenomenal quests. You should be happy there are new characters in this mod, and that they even have voice files.

Furhtermore, i consider your comments a bit too harsh.

And no, this is not a small forum.

Thankfully the other game editor communities I frequent encourage criticism and commentary on new maps and such so map makers can learn and grow, so your hostile little site is in the minority. I do hope you enjoy the isolation.
