I've recovered a number of PGF-7 warheads, but have yet to set sight of any of its launching units. Am I missing something?
Help! I'm approaching LZ XRay and have only 01x LAW (I've already spent 04x LAWs at C11), militia have already sighted 02x tanks.
Do I have to trek back instead?
Thanks.

In a moment of desperation, I found that molotovs work reasonably well against tanks. If you want to try something a little different, try and sneak a merc with a handful of them close enough to lob a few. Make sure they're behind some kind of cover where they won't get smoked after throwing the first one.

Cheers and good hunting,

I just thought of something... Most of the time when I find RPG launchers, they're trapped. I've noticed that trapped items don't appear on the strategic inventory screen, since you can't safely take them. You have to go to the tactical screen and hover your cursor over the piles of loot to spot them. Even if the pile looks small, like an ammo clip or something, it may not be. I've noticed that after flipping to the main inventory screen, trapped items get moved to the bottom of their respective piles.

That said, I usually find an RPG-7 kicking around the Iron Triangle somewhere, and a few around An Loc.

If you're trying to deal with the multitude of tanks around An Loc, the RPG-7 is GREAT!, but molotov's will do in a pinch, so long as the merc carrying them also has a pair of shiny stainless steel ones to pull it off. :naughty:

Cheers and good hunting,

Now that you have mentioned it, I think I did see one at the iron trangle. I remember my merc getting blown to bits trying to untrap it. Heh. How about arty strikes vs tanks? Do you think their soft tops are simulated too? ;P

Calling in arty vs. tanks should work, but I could never be bothered to hump around the radio with such precious few arty requests on the odd chance I'd need it. Much less of a hassle to load up on molotov's and other various explosives and do it by hand, so to speak. Very Happy

Cheers,

Artillery is excellent against tanks and I have used it to destroy two tanks that were close together. Having one extra strong merc to carry it while you have artillery requisitions minimizes that problem. You can store it at safe location until you find more.

I don't like carrying around many molotovs as they are very unstable and will occasionally explode when said merc is hit with a grenade or rpg, then it adios to him and everyone around him feels it.

Also, if you are unaware of it, use a high level merc with good explosives skill to disarm traps.

(Yipey, it has been two years and now I've made Smsgt.)

Whew~... no need for molotov cocktail parties after all, got a RPG-7 off An Loc.
Thanks Vurt.

About the animation of the RPG, just wondering why it's a arching-lob motion much like a mortar and not straight like of a LAW. Isn't a RPG a lot like a bazooka?

No worries. I found untrapping items left behind is a great way to improve wisdom!

As for the lobbing of the RPG's, I had wondered about that too. I suspect that the LAW firing effect wasn't quite right, or that it was hardcoded or some such, and so the game designer had to make do with the grenade launcher effect instead. I dunno.

Cheers,

That's a fairly minor quibble;the radio is similar. If you use it, you get a graphic of the merc setting up a mortar....

As for "hidden" trapped items, after the battle I go to the strategic screen and put every single item into one of my mercs slots and then drop it to the ground. Now all that stuff is in one big pile at my mercs feet. I then go to the tactical map and click on the overhead map to enlarge it. Now I can see all the items on the map. If any arn't in the big pile, then I know they are trapped. Typically any "good" weapon is in this category, as are some good armours.
