I've put together a preliminary patch for SOG'69.

Get it here!

included fixes:

- some map errors in sectors H15,J15,N9,N12,N13. The game should now run fine on expert and easy levels too.
- some missing .wavs
- Some guns have slightly modified stats. Smoke, gas and stun grenades are now a touch lighter and can be thrown farther and more accurately. New pic for the BAR.
- VC armor/guardianvest bug accounted for. Endgame enemies now have their intended armour strength.
- hopefully caught all typos that may have caused problems with the zipped maps' passwords

This is meant purely as a stop-gap measure and will be pulled when Becoming-X releases the official patch. The release version of SOG'69 contains some errors that can make the game unplayable at certain points. Anyway the weapons stats included in this patch are exactly those that I sent to Jay as the final 'mainstream' version. There might be an alternative/harder set of weapons that can easily be switched to later, however I'm still working on the exact values Smile

And umm.. it's well possible I've overlooked something again, please let me know on this thread Wink

Dr. Quack,

Can this patch be applied mid-campaign, or do you have to apply the patch and start the campaign over for it to work? :whoknows:

Also, thanks for putting in the time.

There shouldn't be a big problem adding the patch. If the sectors in question have been already visited, the game won't accept the very minor changes to them. But in this case you've already got around the potentially fatal bugs anyway.

Jona (is this the same Jona that just uploaded the new sectors for JA2? If so see my other thread in this forum)

Anyway, I tried your patch but I'm not clear how you intended to have Eve work. From what I can see she was char 73 and there were no sound files for 073 in the original SOG install so trying to talk to her crashes the game with a missing file error.

Hey, Jona is not an alternative nick of mine Smile Anyway, this is exactly the kind of problem that there may be many more of in Jona's 'patch'. Please use only the official releases or else you're on your own out there Surprised

The current patch though called 'preliminary' is an important bugfix for problems that were not known at the release point, it should really be safe to apply

Dr.Quack,
Thanks for the effort in creating a temporary patch.
I do have a slight problem,I can't seem to download it from the link.I've been trying the past 2 days but getting access to the link takes a long time(over an hour at times)

Could you please send a copy to JA Galaxy if you dont mind.Maybe I'm not the only guy having problems downloading it.

I haven't finished the game yet due to some fatal errors that crashes the game.Hopefully the patch would fix these errors.

Thanks in advance.

Speaking of Jona's patch, good work there too as well Jona.I did notice that the game crashes when you talk to Eve and some new rpcs have been replaced by old chars from JA2,kinda removes the fun in playing with the new rpcs.Just an observation though.

And Dr.Quack,I forgot to mention, most of the time,my search engine could not find the link site you posted.

Linx, this patch contains everything (and nothing else) that was going to be in Becoming-Xs bugfix patch some weeks ago before he sent me his last mail and disappeared. Like I said before it is only meant as a temporary aid and because I have known about those bugs for so long, being a betatester for the campaign. I don't know what exactly Jona's 'patch' does except that it adds some rather crude cheats and unsupported NPCs, and this one is to prevent any problems that could arise from it. It's hopefully all the critical bugfixes and no unplanned additions.

As to the connection problems, sorry about that, but your provider may be having some temporary problems. Have you tried using a public proxy server? I would send the patch to JAG, but it would probably take a week to get posted and then be hard to update. So unless I hit my monthly transfer limit it will probably stay where I have direct FTP access.

Hi!

Sorry for any inconvenience!
I NEVER meant to declare my "patch" as an official Patch - really!

I just didnt notice, that it was much more than a patch, as I released it.

It was posted mainly, because some people were complaining about the (minor) errors and because I wanted to give something back after taking so much from the community...
By this time my patch was no patch any more - sorry for that!

Now my patch has gone and is replaced by an addon!

That means, it should only be used for those, who have completed the original SOG!
Or for whose, for who the Original is too tough (like for me....)
This Addon now has NO patches at all! For that you have to use the new Pre-Patch!
And its NOT an official Addon!

I NEVER have replaced any Original SOG-RPCs, I only added some more (from UB and one from JA2) - but this seems having the same effect.

I also didnt change any weapons(Damage and Range values), but I changed the possible addons....

I also stated, that the sound files for the new (or activated) RPCs are NOT included and therefore must be extracted via a common slf-extractor!
For example: I used the speech from Fox and gave that voice to Eve, but you can use any other character too!

Again: For the purists: DONT use my Addon!
For whose wimps like me, you CAN use it!
But no one HAVE TO use it - everything clear ?

Greetings
Jona

Well, let's cool it at this point. Nobody is being deliberately hard on you here. You can do what you want, but then you have to be a sportsman and take the effects too. Taking the risk to sound overly pathetic, I really think you haven't quite understood what this campaign project is about, since your changes destroy a lot that is special and new about it. Just what is so cool about being able to cheat-buy all the top equipment right at the start? Why iron over the weapons mod so that the guns lose their character, I don't get it?

Of course you can mod anything any way you want, but what I really disliked was trying to sell all this as a bugfix patch, and now as an addon. Frankly, I don't think you've added anything of value yet, like a new sector or image for example. Anybody willing to search this forum for an hour or so can put those NPCs/RPCs into a JA2 map and hyper their stats without much effort, this is really no big thing. Maybe you should try to coordinate your creative efforts better with the people who actually do the work, instead of releasing a series of obscure, independent 'addons' with what you believe is good. And the 'addon' with nightops equipment, extra sectors and stuff was already announced some weeks ago, you really ought to pick a more unique name for your project rather than trying to mimic official releases.

Hmm, I think that was all I wanted to say. Sorry for boring the bystanders.

Dr.Quack:

I only downloaded SOG a few weeks back and now I was reading more on it here and I am concerned that I must have missed something.

I have found the fireplace tunnel entrances but the underground sectors will not load for me. I thought when I download the SOG and 1.01 all that was taken care of.

Now looks like I have to download another patch and I am in Day 40 of my campaign. I don't mind downloading another patch, but can I do it in mid game and will that fix the problem with the underground sectors not loading. I am currently in the Iron Triangle.

Seems like I may have missed so much already I might just have to restart...which sorta bums me out.

Hmm, I am not sure, but could it be that you haven't updated UB with the english Sirtech 1.01 patch? I think there was a problem with underground sectors in UB 1.00, and the non-english 1.01 versions. In this case you'd have to apply the Sirtech patch, then run the 'save changes to ub.bat' file again to patch the new executable, or re-run the prepatch, it will start the weapons editor too. Underground sectors are all maps whose names match *_b1.dat, or rather *_b?.dat. I'd agree that the entrances are rather hard to find..

Warning, possible spoiler...

I found an entrance only after sifting through a sector I had been in three or four times before. The only reason I was even looking was because I needed the NVA map I didn't get in J15, and thought the game might have defaulted it somewhere I hadn't been. The way I found out which sectors the maps were in was by paying attention to what maps loaded, and looked for the ones that were labeled with the suffix _b1 (basement level one). It still took me forever to find one of the entrances, but eventually I did. In a big pile of otherwise unnoticed rocks.

Peace out, and blame Canada.

I am not having a problem finding entrances just getting the lower levels to load. I have the english UB and I got the 101 patch + SOG so I can't figure why things are not loading right.

I decided to play through and made my way to LZ Rosie then back to Tay Ninh. Think I will hang around there awhile and look around.

Still cannot hire any mercs because of bad rep. But haven't lost anybody in a while. Is this a default mode of the mod? Not to let you hire more mercs? I will just continue to play through and learn things as I go. I hate having to start over. Will down load Dr. Quack's patch over the weekend when I have time to wait around on my slow connection.

Thanks Dr. Quack and Sidetrack.

Jura Jura:

I got Spooky, Sarge, Ruiz, Taylor all in the first day no problem. It wasn't until later on that the AIM mercs refused to work with me.

I have to figure that stealing Tran's money was a trigger for it. I did lose Taylor, MD, and Barry at the first big fire fight at FB Judy, but I can't see why AIM would care for Taylor, and Barry, MD well that's only two mercs.

My current SOG team consist of 12. Spooky who now has over 115 kills with half again as many assists, Panther-IMP, Ruiz, Numb, Cougar, Gaston, Gumpy, Bull, Gasket,Tex,and Razor.

Things I have missed: I did not find the stock pile of loot in Tay Ninh that everyone said to blow up to get too.
I could not get two different tunnel sections to load. I could enter a team of six, but then got "runtime errors".
I have not found the cache of medical supplies for Tran.

I did get:
Radio
Deed for Silent Carbine

I will download the Dr. Quack patch either tonight or tomorrow and see if that makes a difference. I probably will go back and re-load the 101 patch also.

Hey, unlike real warfare where the civilians are 'collateral damage' they really need protection in childsafe JA2/UB. Some of the AIM mercs like Buns and Raider can get pretty fed up if you massacre a lot of them, and losing your own employees is always very bad PR. Stealing anything that does not have an 'ownership' never hurts reputation. If Trangs money wasn't greyed out in the sector inventory it's safe to take. And the only way to recover reputation is by winning battles, I think.
And which are the tunnels you can't enter, what do you do exactly to get a runtime error? I haven't had any problems with them.

I didn't write down the sectors. They were in villages, inside of huts, looked like fire places. I would get the little arrow box indicator was taking your troops in. It would give me the "all mercs" "go to sector" and it would even load up, but then the scene would look like a spiderweb covered cave with "Run Time Error" and some other tech messages. This happen both times in two different places.

I gave up and moved on, thinking that maybe I had to have whatever is in does damn annoying dossiers that require passwords.

Anyway I was thinking of playing back through so the next time I run up on one I will be sure to write down the sector and what the message is saying exactly.

TrooperThorn, I had the same problem. I fixed it by deleting and re-installing UB, then patching that to 1.01, then installing SOG. I kept the old SOG savegames from where I had left off, copied tham back, and everything worked OK.

Maybe try again? :whoknows:
