I downloaded the game and the patch, but now I cannot get it to open and run. I am using Windows XP. Each time I attempt to run the exe I get a message asking for which program I want to use to open it? That seems weird to me. Normally after I have set up everything I get a screen to play the game, but that didn't happen this time.

What am I doing wrong? Or is it a bug in the download? I even tried putting in UB disk and then attempting to run the program but I got nothing. I extracted the files from the patch. When I click on the Vietnam folder I don't see any set up or run file.

Basically I am at a total lost here and need some help.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Do you have the correct CD in the drive?

Hi!

Not able to execute an exe on a PC ?
Looks like a corrupted DL to me.
I dont know XP, nor do I know Windows at all.
I only know the W98 System, which came with my emulator....which is rather stable - in spite of the systems I had before...

Thats also the reason, why I cannot include a Setup.exe for "my" patch (You meant the SOG-Patch, did you?). I explained in the readme, what to do - well at least I hope so...

But you first have to install SOG, BEFORE you can use the patch!

Hoping, that helps a bit...

Greetings
Jona

Ok I loaded up my UB disc and started a new game. I get all the Vietnam era equipment, but the storyline and the scenery is staying the same. Is that suppose to happen? I even snuck to the first town to see what it would be like and it's Varrez.

When you look at the stategic map you see Vietnam style terrain, but when you go into actual play mode I am still seeing Tracona terrain.

I will download the program again to see if that will help.

Did you run the "set ja2ub campaign" utility? Sounds like the standard campaign is still active..

Ok I got it to work finally. I went back and downloaded the program again, this time from JA Galaxy, File Planet and got another SOG this one was designated 320 AF755.pf. The first one was 0D110029.pf.

Not sure if that made a difference. I also put the new one directly into the UB file. I then ran the disc and got a message asking which campaign I wanted UB or SOG. I set SOG and ran a new game. All same same at start with Helicopter and crash but once you exit the crash site sector you come into a thick jungle.

A bit of a pain to get it up and going but now I am on my way to COSVN.

Hi There!

TT:
Gratulations!
The issue with sector H7 is fixed in the NEW Patch! (not online yet....)

One word of caution:
if you use the sog_patch, you MUST install all new sound files manually - using slf-explore or a similar utility, or the game will crash the first time you talk to a (new) RPC!

These sound files are not included on purpose.
Otherwise the patch would have been about 50 MB!

Well I fought all the way to the Golden Buddha, but not I am stuck. I cannot get to the other sectors. I met Trang but he told me he had other more important matters to be concerned with. I never got any quests from him or a dossier.

I recruited Spooky, but after the big fight in Tay he left because I had Shadow on my team. I got Tex, Ruiz, Taylor and Sarge. A.I.M. Mercs are Spider, Igor, Grunty and Shadow along with my I.M.P.

I guess I must have missed something along the way. I read someone mentioned the helicopters act like portals but how do you use them?

It's a good game and I appreciate the effort put into it. The weapons are interesting and I like the Tour of Duty guys, that was a cool touch. I just wish it wasn't so frustrating to get to the other sectors. Dossiers and passwords? I did find the zip files but without the passwords I am stuck.

Not every helicopter acts as a portal. However, if you move your cursor along the doors to the chopper, the cursor will change on the ones that do. Then, it's basically like moving your mercs from one level to another. You need to get all of your mercs near the door (or the ones you wish to move) before clicking your mouse.

Thanks Rev1 roger that. I figured it out before I read your post. Landed in a hot LZ Astro and did a flanking move to the right with my IMP, Shadow, Tex, Grunty. Took out 4 VC to wrap up the fight.

Got the other squad into the LZ on the second wave and have scouted to the village of Tinh. That's when I decided I better come back here and read up on the spoilers some more.

I am slowly figuring it out. I particularly like the hot LZ action. My squad was slow moving up because they were weighed down with tons of equipment and ammo. Basic sprint to contact then a standard fire and move manauver. Most of the heavy action was handled by the grunts in the center. We flanked the VC and rolled them up with long range sniping and a few well placed bloop grenades.

Hootch to Hootch search at Tinh and uncovered some small arms. Some stinky stuff to rub on Taylor's armor and some money. I am sure I am missing something so we camped out for the night to keep and eye on the ville.

Hi!

I finally am able to set/fix locks in UB Maps!
Great thing!

*** spoiler ***
Now I know that the crate in N11_b1 is NOT to be opened! (The same lock as in Orta Basement)
I will fix it for those who insist to get it opened, but it will stay a tough one!
*** end ***

Another thing:
My Patch2 hasnt arrived yet - I sent it about 2 weeks ago.... strange...
Now why does it take so long ?

Jona,

I just read over your read me file regarding your patch. What does it mean that the full roster of AIM, Merc, and the "old" RPCs have been updated?

If I'm nearly finished with the campaign, is there any benefit in downloading the patch?

Day 17 finds my SOG team at Firebase George. Having cleared out 22 NVA regulars and captured some small arms and explosives we rested and recovered from our wounds. Tex seems to find every booby trap device their is with his toes, those he has left anyway. Sarge is a consistent performer locating boobytraps and taking out the enemy with a scoped garand. Taylor and Ruiz are hanging tough, although Ruiz can't hit the broad side of a barn with that m-60. Team hampered with short range weapons. Grenades seem to be more duds then live rounds. Badly need more cash for Mercs. May have to make a supply run soon. Still no sign of special intel items. The enemy blew up some equipment when the fire fight started for FB George.

I had good results using VC weapons, backed up by 1 or 2 LMGs. They're lacking in stats compared with their US equivalents, but ammo is plentiful and its a pain having to go back for ammo. I'm not surewhat the recoil suppressors do, but they do seem to improve accuracy. Does anyone know the answer to this? The M16s are best left alone, due to jamming problems. I was basically using the best guns I could find ammo for

For the Patch2 - it depends - as always Wink))

The main changes are:
very few bug fixes,
2 (or 3?) new RPCs,
Raul is no longer there, but a little more money...
2 new Weapons.txt (Wedit) for improved Weapon stats (including better armor and better Grenades!)

Its up to you (or anyone else) if this is worth a complete restart!

Jona, these features that you mention sound like the complete destruction of the campaign's idea, Raoul for example was never meant to be there, and there was really a lot of fiddling till the damages were 'right' that you're now rearranging. More money and cheating sectors with unlimited supplies just destroy the whole spirit of SOG69. Becoming-X wrote to me like one month ago that his patch for the game was nearly finished, I just don't know what happened in the meantime. You can be sure that I have corrected maps and stats on my harddrive, however I held them back out of courtesy toward the campaigns creator. So what I want to say is do what you like, but don't make it look 'official' like you're doing now. Give your patch a unique, clearly distinguishing name like "softsleeping poultry cheat patch" or anything that you like and go ahead, but please try not to add shortsighted features that have been debunked at the onset of the campaigns design like they had been forgotten.
