Hey X. You said that importing JA2 games makes game play for SOG69 unbalanced. Why is that? Is it bcos of the increased stats or are there any other reasons which I am not aware of?

<>

Ummm.. I don't really understand what you meant here

I am playing Becoming X's SOG mod with JA2UB gold. I did have to patch UB, but I did not see any error message involving sector N9. I have run into no problems at all so far.

Bec. X:
great mod, especially since Zeke and the a number of folks from Tour of Duty is there Very Happy (where's LT and Johnson by the way?)

This mod brings back a lot of memory from early 90's,when I watched the TV show regularly...

ps: how do we recruit Tex (if I imported a savegame from JA2) by the way?

Fantastic mod, X ! I haven't had much sleep since I downed it Smile I've really enjoyed cleaning up Charlie in the Tay ninh area.

But I am having problems leaving the Tay Ninh base , what do I have to do exactly ? Use the helipad or the teleport feature, I know, but how?

I have a problem with the Readme. In the game I found 2 items giving me passwords to unzip two files with hints (one is dossier2, I don`t remember the second one, it had to be some map or such), but there are no such files in the readme directory, just dossier1.zip. Am I missing something?
Linx: I`ve thought Spooky would make excellent team with Shadow and Magic, but I didn`t have enough money to make such dream team possible.

EDIT: I solved problem with zips.

You have to use the northern heli in the southern part of the base (I-11, if I remember) those two other are just decorations. (well, you "use" them on your way back to the base)
Welcome to Bearpit and enjoy.

Fantastic Mod so far, I just reached sector I-10 (barely). Just to clarify, the two wierd messages that I have gotten so far are as follows:

(1) When first starting the campaign (i.e. before you hit the ground) check the message log (you have to scroll up). You will see where the game adds all of the custom sectors (e.g. "Added custom sector xx"). The problem that I noted was one of the lines read "Unable to load Sector N-9, Map Population Total must be less than 32". Now so far the mod has run real smooth. But if I pass my cursor over sector N-9, it does not show as one of the sectors you can enter. I guess my question for Becoming X is, whether or not this is supposed to happen, is N-9 a valid sector that was customized?

(2) Also got the message "Sam Site in I-8: Jungle" taken over" right after I cleared I-9.

TampaGamer I checked the message log on my new game and did not get the error message about sector N9.

Sector N9 shows up as a usuable sector on the map screen.

Thanks Quasimodo. I wonder what I could I could have done to cause the error b/c that sector is definitely not usuable and according to the briefs that is our main LZ for accessing the iron triangle. Is there a way to reinstall, without screwing up my saved game? Is there a way to "manually" install a sector in a current game?

Place this map in your \campaigns\unfinished business folder and the new sector will be used
for the radarmap follow the instructions as if it is an JA2-map (extract sti via hex-editor and save as h7.sti in \data\radarmaps folder)

Actually, the procedure posted by Gunny is incorrect. Check www.lords-of-the-bytes.com and in the JA2 Files section you can find the correct procedure.

Damn, your'e right Abdul.
You have to convert into JA2 Type 1, not UB.

The complete procedure can be found at LotB in the JA2/JA2:UB>Hacking section.

I had the problem with the N9 sector, too. Too many people in the sexcctor (32) so it was not added to the main map.

Squid - I figured out the problem. See the bug/mistake thread. Bottom line, until it is patched or you fix it yourself in the editor, you have to play on "experienced" level instead of "expert"

The missing cats seems to have another side affect to Betty. After a while she simply says "money locked in safe come back tomorrow" & will only direct trade in that you gotta buy something from her & she only trades to about an equivalent value .... so her usefullness as someone who buys surplus stuff & being the only regular source of income is negated.
Since her quest complete inventory includes NVG & Extended Ears I guess this is why Becoming X never included the cats as these items would unbalance combat by allowing players these goodies early on.

Thanks, Bearpit! Yeah..how do I get back to the base after clearing FB George? I tried going back to the original LZ but can't do anything there. So I decided to go down to Ben Su P7 and finish the quest for the mayor while trying to figure it out.

Having a great time playing this, only 1 problem so far, in sector N12 (plenty of militia, bloodcats and VC) my computer hangs after a turn or two... I've tried accessing the sector from different sides, using different tactics, amount of mercs but nothing helps...

Is LT Stone recruitable ? I've tried with Raider (leadership)but no go...

B.O.B - same thing happened to me. What I ended up doing was making a hard save at the beginning of each merc turn, then reloading after the crash. I found it worked best by entering from the east edge, then running with all my mercs toward the center. Eventually I saw a VC and was able to shoot. After that, if the game crashes, go back to the begining of the turn and move in a different direction. After a while I got through the crash period and the sector stabalized. Throwing a molotov is a good way to crash, too.

No, Lt Stone is not recruitable.

hmm a problem here...

this is a great campain.. but in the sector N11 Tinh Village... if i'm trying to reach the underground through the fireplace the game crashes with the error msg "runtime error ...bla bla bla could not find map..."

is this because i should not reach the underground at this point of the game or is this simply an error?... btw... does this error occur only in my game or does someone else have the same problem?

thanks

Thanks are due to Becoming X for making a great game! As I am very new to mods I have lots of questions.
1) After downloading the mod I was prompted by my download manager to run the program which I did which auto installed the mod. Looking over the read me file I saw that it mentions having to install various files so I am wondering if the mod is not fully installed? If some things need to be installed manually what are the file names and where do I put them?
2) I noted that after installing the mod I can no longer use the original UB campaign by changing the campaign setting. How do I change back? Do I need to reinstall the whole game?
3) I went to file planet to down load the new read me and found that it's empty (i.e.0K ) so I wonder if there is some other way I can get the updated read me file? What's the URL?
4) I noted that within the old read me file is folder called dosier1. What is the password needed to unzip it? Is their supposed to be a dosier2?
5) Is Betty Wong supposed to disappear a day after you find her? Where are the blood cats she talks about?
6) Someone brought up tunnels in Tay Ninh yet I can't find a chimney or any other sign of an entrance. How do I find the tunnels? Do I need a patch?
7) Some have talked about in game clues yet after exploring all of the first AO I have only found one by buying a video from Betty yet I have no idea how to use the pass word. Is their supposed to be more then 1 clue in the first AO? How do you use the clues?
Cool In the old read me files some mention was made of having a SOG contact in Tay Ninh yet outside of the three recruitable characters I found only Innis and Hanigan neither of which seem to have any info for me about the main mission. What I am I missing?
9) How on earth do I get to the Northern AO?
10) How do you use the radio and the artillery reqresition forms?
Thanks again for your hard work and great mod!

you can recruit tex by betti's store, even if hes not worth his food... there a four caracters to recruit in tay nin, spooky, sarge and two others, just search the base for them, for the moment ive not found other people to recruit but i'm only cleaning the whole fb george region and searching for other underground accesses... thats it i can not help you more, ive learned these facts only a day ago too Smile
