POSSIBLE SPOILER

********************************

I am at the old missionary post in the Iron Triangle. Fought my way through the tunnel complex and now I'm searching the place. Steroid can pick all the locks but one. The crate in the makeshift hospital room appears to be un-beatable. Is there a key? Tried blowing the box but this reduces it to rubble. Cant find the item the Mayor wanted so I am guessing it is in the crate. Right? Anyone else have a problem with this lock. I have Wolf, Sarge, Spooky and Steroid (amongst others) on the team. Any ideas?

its a usual problem, it takes time but with lockpick and crowbar the crate opens after a while, just keep trying with all the tolls and kick it.

This lock is really hard to open and Steroid is probably not the best choice. I had even problems to open the lock with Trevor on level 2. I returned after Trevor gained some experience on the battlefield. With Trevor on level 4 or something the lock wasn't a problem anymore.

Yes this crate has kept me from getting any further in the game. I tried Barry, Steroid and Nails and they couldn't do it. I've restarted the game with Trevor just for this purpose.

Thanks folks for the words of encouragement. I really hate starting all over again. Guess I'll let Steroid beat it up a bit more. Thanks!

OK, I love the JA2UB game as much as the next guy (or gal) but this crate is driving me crazy.

POSSIBLE SPOILER

I even had Wolf (who's skills are better then Steroid's) repair everyone's gear to run up his mechanical and dextrity skills but after 13 days (with Tex ragging on about how he hates confined spaces) he still couldn't make that crate open. Blowing it up just destroys the contents.

It would have been nice if the README had stated that Trevor was required as a team member to solve at least one possible problem. Of course he is so expensive how could he be on the team?

Now I have to leave the tunnels, wander the countryside and kill endless groups of enemy soldiers until I can raise enough cash to chopper Trevor in or work to raise Wolf's skills to 90 or better? Not a great future. I know I quit playing early tonight when I realized I couldn't proceed any further. Kinda spoils the momentium of the game. And I (especially with Spooky) was doing so well too.

**LokiOne prepares to shut down his computer and head for bed, a little peeved to say the least **

you could try blowing off the lock with hand-grenades (use the 'door explosive' icon, don't throw the 'nades) and kick it open later with strong mercs.

Scully had that opened with 3-4 grenades and couple of kicks.

Don't waste your time and money, LokiOne, the info you'll get from the dossier is not that important for the game.

Dossier? Is that what is in the crate or is the medicine in it and once given to the Mayor HE will give you a dossier? I have assumed that this crate contains the much needed medicine because I couldn't find it elsewhere.

I did try the explosives icon but only once or twice. It kept hurting the merc with little apparent impact on the crate. Guess I'll give that another try. Thanks!

Thankyou Rev. You were right. Don't know why for sure. Before, when I used the explosives icon an actual explosion would go off, knocking my merc to the ground and hurting him.

SPOILER
This time I got a small **pop** and no explosion. A couple of kicks and it is open. Wow!

Thanks again.I can go to work now, knowing I can continue the game this evening. Razz

Wow this game is amazing! After all this time I can still learn something new. I didn't know you could open crates this way. Oh well... It was not so bad hiring Trevor, he is only $13,000 here and no whining for raises.

SPOILER

I got curious as to why Steroid couldn't use the "door explosive" on that darn crate but Wolf could. I had been focusing on the agility and mechanical skill but this wasn't necessary. Page 39 in your Jagged Alliance 2 Unfinished Business instruction manual has the answer.

I admit that I had to search the house to find this manual but after the debacle with this crate I was determined to find out where I went wrong. I am embarrassed to admit that after years of playing the entire JA1 and JA2 series (plus several campaigns) I thought I knew all the rules. Page 39 and this crate taught me differently.

What a game!

LokiOne quietly slinks out the back door with his tail between his legs. LokiOne has left the building.

Hey guys

The regular hand grenades can now be used as the door explosive, because I moved them so that the enemies would throw molotovs. Enemies will never throw reg. hand grenades now because they are hardcoded as the door explosive. I needed to use an explosive item slot, and didn't want to lose any of the existing grenades.

That explains it. I was trying to figure out why sometimes I got the door explosive sign and other times not. I didnt check to see if my hand grenade stock was being used when I used that symbol. Kinda wish we could permanentlychange that in JA. Door explosive generally one of the things I always left behind in a sector, and I always run out of grenades (I like throwing them over walls and around corners to disrupt interrupts).
