Which one of them is your favourite? Who do you think is the crappiest? Who do you think is the best? Which one you hate the most?
Well, that's a lot of questions, but it interests me. I'll answer those questions now.
1. Hmm... it has to be Spooky.
2. Guess... Ruiz.
3. Spooky or Sarge.
4. I don't hate any of them.
5.

Favorite: Ruiz (I'm a TOD addict and Roo rules)
Crappiest: Sarge, can't chance his stats.
Best: Spooky, good shot, fast learner. Taylor is also a fast learner.

Wish LT Goldman, Johnson and Percell were included to have completed the TOD Squad. But it's a excellent mod!

Hey

Poor sarge. Terrance Knox is his name. Last time I saw him he had two lines in a eulogy for an aged pornstar in an episode of Six Feet Under.
Guess he's gone down hill. I shoulda tried to get him to voice sarge since he's not doing much. But I'd only be able to pay him in beer.

The lieutenants face is used as an NPC at one of the FB's.

Ruiz is in Tay Ninh Base. The bottom sector with the helipad. :eek4:

Ahh, no worries sport... you can just use Proedit and switch off Spooky hating Shadow. That's what I did, 'cuz I like them both a lot.

Out of curiosity, how did you create the wavs for all your NPCs? Via microphone and Sound Recorder? Or some other method?

@jaws
You can't fix the ammo prob with proedit. Even Spooky's distaste for Shadow can only be fixed with proedit by restarting the game.

In the future just remember to always use tons of guns.
R Lee Ermey is the drill sarge from FMJ. I love that guy. I didn't realize he did voice over stuff for Fallout.

If you still can't find ruiz, I have to ask, did you import a saved game? Because sometimes that messes up the merc placement. If you haven't imported he should be in the sector I described above. He's in one of the barracks.

@wyoming
All the voices in the mod were created by myself, or friends sitting in front of a microphone repeating line after monotonous line. I really lucked out by having talented contributors. Masguy from the bearspit did some great work on Ponder and the Lt. And Spooky actually has a tv show now.

That's what I thought. Some of the wavs have a slightly "tinny" quality, which is typical of recordings from a microphone. I haven't proceeded far into the game (reached Tay Ninh and found Ruiz, before I lost interest...don't take it personally), but the voice acting I've heard so far is quite convincing. You did have a talented crew. Kudos on a job well done.

I used ProEdit to allow Sarge (as well as Len) normal skill increases - and pleased to find that they have voice files for when they progress! So Sarge is definitely now my favourite.
I have yet to use Taylor's 'thief' ability, and he is not easy to recruit, need someone with good leadership (hence I often need Len or Scully if I want to hire Taylor). So he is my least favourite, even though he gets along well with Sarge.
Spooky is good - too good, almost imbalancing. Sleep requirements of 2!? (when the average merc is 7). He tends to hit with most bullets in a 5-round burst up to 15 or so tiles away, and rarely goes psycho. I won't complain too much though - his talent is definitely required in this mod, and I like his attitude, which counts for everything as far as I'm concerned. And he's my girlfriend's fave, whenever she investigates what mayhem I'm up to.

i really liked one thing,by varrez i was pretty much outta ammo, after that battle i had like 3 shotguns shells,5 garand rounds, and some useless pistol ammo,no 9mm,had me scared like hell

i was like,1/3 of varrez down and im already outta ammo?goddamn!

one thing i didnt like much was the guns u picked
like bar and garand,old stuff..

maybe later on i find the good stuff?

anyways u prolly heard it before around here, but im new so:
thx alot!

great job mate

The point i want to make is that the "old stuff" you are talking about, is in fact, quite up to date for that era. Ofcourse you will find "good stuff" later on in the game..Just don't think this is a Deidranna Lives Mod where the most high-tech weaponry is already available from the moment you get out of the chopper.

yeah so u r saying back in 1969 us special forces used garand?

and old french machine guns?

say m14 and im with u

i understand the whole,building up mercs,armory etc
but i guess it kinda clashes with the background, this being the us army as opposed to a bunch o mercs

in the army they dont give u an old french pistol cause u r noob Very Happy

i know ARVN used tommy guns and m1 carbinesdunno if they got garands, maybe

Hey

Weapons progression is unrealistic but I think necessary to make the mod interesting. New weapons are introduced in zones. The first zone is when you crash and are forced to use pistols to fight your way into Tay Ninh. Tay Ninh is the next zone, and finally An Loc is the last. In An Loc you should be able to find the standard set of weapons available to the troops in Vietnam.

Of course along the way there are a few unique weapons and you can choose to loot the enemy. VC in Tay Ninh, but increasingly better armed NVA in An Loc. :rifle:

SOG teams are not regular Special Forces as you intend i think, meaning no Green Beret's or Marine Recon like.

SOG teams used all kinds of weapons since their missions were clandestine and got them to where American's were not supposed to be,like Cambodia.

For obvious reasons this meant all their equipment was stripped of everything that could be traced back to the USA. This also means they used weapons that were taken from dead VC/NVA, black markets or foreign nations.

So would they run around with M14's or M16's with nice American serial numbers on them? Probably not.

@becoming x

again i dont mean to whine about a product that is free and alot of fun

just my 2 cents

@headshot,well an ak or 2 would be nice
i know about all those covert ops thing they did
once i saw a jungle boot with a human foot print on the sole! Very Happy
specially made for those guys

also they were the ones accused of using poisonous gas

anyways, garands are also american,so that cant be the reason ud pick it instead of m14,its because of weapon progression as Becoming x mentioned

actually its the same deal with ja2 original

what guy in his right mind would be airlifted into a hostile sector with only a sidearm?

even the poorest git can beg enough money to buy an ak
or sks at least Very Happy

i was just alittle disappointed when i got to tah ninh saw the armoury, with lotsa crated with goodies and found no m14s
i figuered i had it made!

ill get there though

No,the reason is production of the Garand stopped in 1957 when the U.S. Army adopted the M14 as their main battle rifle. Which means a Garand had over a decade of time to show up anywhere on the world, even in Vietnam or Cambodia.

The Garand was also very reliable in all weather conditions which is nice to know if its exposed to moist, rain and heat day in, day out.

Furthermore SOG members had a free choice of weapons as mentioned before.

But anyway, since you keep reflecting everything i say on the game while i'm trying to give you some "real world" info i'll leave it to this.

Only one thing about the weapon progression i want to mention.

-How much fun would it be when you land in Omerta carrying Rocket Rifles while the red shirts carry .38's and 9mm? Or the other way around for that matter...No fun at all since there's no challenge left.

There's no fun in a game where you start with Uberweapons don't you agree?

whats wrong with everyone having rifles?
both sides with rifles

AKs for everyone!
i know about the old trick of hiring a good merc with a decent gun for a day and keep his gun,i dont consider this cheating,im just too lazy to run around with a 38 and shootin sumone 50 times till they die,i just grab the gun and clear drassen ral quick, its after u take drassen that the real fun begins imo

according to becomin x it is because of game progression, read his last post

i dont remeber asking u about real world info

now,i dont wanna start a flamewar or nothing
but u havent told me anything i didnt know :ok:

i know a bit about military stuff since its been an intrest of mine since i was a kid,i dont think theres much u can teach me,unless u r a general or sumthin

we should not forget that jagged alliance is also a RPG. Like all RPGs, you start with poor stuff and you find better items progressively as your character grow in levels and visit places. We rarely start with the best weapon or the best armor of the game.
