Has this question already been posted? I crash when I try to enter sector I3 - I've tried entering normally and it lets me place my squad, but when the tac map loads it crashes.

I also tried doing auto resolve when the combat screen comes up, but it still crashes when I try to enter it on the tac map.

What gives??

Thanks guys,

- jman

Well. We don't know what gives. The problem has been reported before, but we're still trying to figure it out. No solution atm, except starting a new game or avoiding the map.
If you have the problem occur when starting a new game, I'd appreciate it if you dropped me a line via email, so I can send you an edited I3 map because we are having problems recreating the crash and are looking for testers. (Only some people have it, or there is just a tiny chance that it does. So you're one of the unlucky ones Smile )

Apparently, I am one of the unlucky ones as well Sad

I captured the city sectors and began working on the surrounding urban sectors. Upon entering I-3 I place my mercs and when I attempt to load th sector it crashes .. everytime, no matter which mercs I am sending.

Like the above poster, even if I auto resolve and win I cannot go "to" the sector (despite being "in" it), ie go to the tactical screen, without crashing.

One other major problem I am having -- Rude Dog is bugged to all hell. This happened after capturing Prax, I think.

I cant get him to move at ALL. I can use him to move stuff from sector to sector, assign him to squads, vehicles, heli, but I cannot get him to move in the tactical screen. He is 'stuck' and refuses to go anywhere.

If I attempt to fire I get the clock for a cpl minutes. If I drop something it "disappears" and is gone forever after the "dropping item" animation completes.

Very strange -- its bumming me out, I miss using the Rude one Sad

Other than that the game has been pretty bug free. I have had some cashes when Col. Kelly is about to spot an item and perhaps a few other ctd's, but overall a very enjoyable fairly bug free experience.

Here are 41 fixed UC maps including I3.

See if it works now. Zip weighs 2.5 megs.

UC fixed maps.

As for characters freezing & refusing to move .... experienced that myself.
Only solution is fire them from interface screen.
Regretably you cant rehire locals :whoknows:

ScurveyDog.

Yes they can.
Next time you visit, rogue teleports, building glitches + various other small errors should vanish.

These maps also fix a subway problem caused by Sci-Fi mode where former JA2 caves would suddenly appear in place of 2 subway stations effectively making them useless & blocking access to other stations.

Thanks Bearpit, I will check out these updateds map files when I get home.

As for the "stuck" mercs, I do miss the Rude One. The only other time I have seen this is when I played a game with 6 IMPs. One of the females, about halfway through the game, got "stuck" and I basically had to stop using her for combat, etc.

I assumed it was because of a glitch due to the 6 IMPs .... perhaps something similar is happening to Rude now due to the modding of the RPCs? Who knows.

I always try all kinds of movement. Getting weapon to hand and out of hand. Beating the merc, using cheats (when no other way is to be found), throwing a grenade near that the merc will fly of the impact. That has worked sometimes.

Yes, well, I thought we solved it, but if the fix doesn't work,-...damn. (you did start a new game or at least made sure the maps weren't visited before, right?).

Well, I still think the crash is due to a poorly built map. It's what you get with loads of contributors (no offense).
So, if anyone is willing to rebuild that map, just start all new (no copying) and remake the map more or less the same as it is now with comparable guys, items and entrypoints in it, it might solve the problem for all of those who have the crash occur.

Eh, I'm on my third game of UC. I've never been able to get into that map. I just ignore that sector now, and have accepted that there's no way to get a vehicle from Drake to Adrian (well, I suppose you could take the scenic route through Rudesa... LOL!)

One bad sector out of so many jewels. No biggie. Very Happy

@Wodan - I had tried to access I3 prior to installing the fixed map files. Bearpit stated it would work, so I tried it, dndit start over.

My next game I will do it at the beginning and see if it works.

But, as D stated, one bad map file out of so many jewels, I can live with it Smile

@Wodan - I always had a crash in I3 so have installed the new map before the sector has ever been entered. I'm close to entering it now, but unfortunately have tons of RL work to do right now Sad

Hopefully have an update for you in under a week or so.

If it does still crash, will a savegame be of any use to you? If it is, then I can be sure and make one just before entering. Let me know.

Got the same crash, and I started my game after installing Bearpit's new map versions. Unfortunately, I have an (almost) similar problem in sector H5. I can go there in overview map, but always crash when I want to zoom in Sad

I crashed in I3, too. Sent in Haywire (alone) and tried autoresolve - Haywire made it about 3 steps before they got him.

HISTORY LOG IS UPDATED.
HAYWIRE IS DEAD.
HAYWIRE GAINED 1 LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE.

That is one heck of a way to gain experience I tell you.

Anyway, I reloaded and sent Haywire down into subway at H3. He cleared it (good boy) and explored. Down at end of long corridor in SW found a square go-elsewhere button, so I tried it and was surprised to fall into the same basic map but with a trashed corrdor and deterioration. It identified itself as Sector "I3-1" - a subterranean part of I3 - the map I cannot enter.

Could this relate to the problem in the surface world?? (erie music queues up)

This town has a 3 sector subway which is joined by stairs - corridors - tunnel ends. Thats normal.
Two of the maps are similar construction & join end to end.
Eerie music means the sci-fi quest is active .... some subways are former creature caves.

I3 crashes ???? we cant replicate them. Some people are affected, others have no problem ??
It was thought to be caused by Bloodcats which were removed but even then problems persist

on my old computer (P866, Win '98) I had no problems with I3.
I copied the game for a friend who didn't have broadband. ie, lifted the running version of UC, verbatim, and dumped it onto his harddrive (didn't bother to do it properly - load JA2 then unpack&load UC).
His computer is 2-or-3G with WinXP Pro, and guess what? I3 crashes, even though it is a direct clone of the version on my computer.

Possible fix to I3 "semi-bug". I wandered the added subway as described above. I downloaded MAPS and installed as Bearpit instructed. Then I set JA2UC to Win98 compatibility mode and 640x480 and I found I could enter the I3 map.

What "fixed" it I do not know, but there is value in persistance.

I too am using WIndows XP. I set the shortcut to win98 compatibility mode and 640x480, and it fixed the problem for me too, and I didn't even have to restart the game. Just loaded the previous save and it let me into the sector as normal after changing the shortcut. The only problem I have with win98 compatiblity, is the sound stuttering if more than one merc is trying to talk or if the game is saving when someone is talking. Hope this helps others.
