I just noticed when playing UC that the inteligense and skill of the enemys variates a lot. I was in sector with aprox. 30 enemys. My guy is in a doorway, fires and kills. Goes behind a corner. and waits that the battle is over. Goes to another door, shoots and kills. I kept switching places between these two doors. And the enemys just stod there all together. And one by one they died. But then when I had killed them I started moving and suddenly a red shirt kills me with two shot from his pistol from miles away. Isn't that weird.

Weird ... yes & no.

Besides having a dumb V1.07 AI UC in most maps had enemies at default equipment & stats average - average. There were a few altered ones but not enough.

By individually hand setting these to good - great .... it's a very different fight but an enormous amount of work for 200+ maps.

However I agree, miracle shots at 20 squares from a pistol are disturbing.

Hi,
I may be wrong but if we compute the chance to hit with a pistol of range say 13 and with an enemy with mrkm 80, it gives: (80-(30+28)+40)/2=31
30= range 20 sighting penalty
28= range 20 gun penalty
40= 4 APs for aiming
/2 = out of range penalty
So it means that the enemy will hit 1 out of 3 times, which is NOT a miracle.
Even a poor enemy (MRKM 50) has a 16% chance to hit, which is not negligible...

Well even redshirts with pistols are disturbingly accurate, policemen are tough and blueshirts with camo and night equipment are a horror. Just try to kill a blueshirt waiting for you on the roof with a rifle and extended ear when you have to cross 20 squares of open ground and your only weapon is a silenced Agram with 10 bullets Smile That was quite a fight. And they seem to gain the initiative very often, even when there are two of my mercs waiting for them round a corner - often they just come out and gun me down. But that's all part of the excitement, I like challenges like this. BTW, AP ammo doesn't seem to do much damage against blueshirts, HP seems to work better for me, even against armored opponents. Aim for the head, 6-7-8-9, that's right, click, boom..whizz..splash!!! "Jesus, now that blows my mind! Guess that makes two of us!" Can't get enough of that Smile

I got an issue with the enemies' intelligence. Let's face it: most of the time they're not the smartest possible, but this time they went too far. I've got a few screenshots but don't know how to post them (if that's even allowed). Long story short: they just sat there and took shoots from my IMP. It was a JA2UC solo game (installed over JA2 v1.03), a nightfight. I laid to waste about dozen enemies and they JUST SAT THERE. Hmm... what else... weapon was not silenced, I do quicksave/quickload a lot (I suspect this might mess up the game, definetely not sure Smile ).

Yeah.. the cops seem to get the first turn no matter what... bas***ds...

"Sitting there" is a behaviour of defensive orders & default average equipment - statistics.

To organize robust responses & some intelligent tactics requires hand adjusting the orders & levels of all 32 enemies, placing them in positions of cover or places to stream out of, giving varied orders and in some cases hand equipping with LAWS, mortars, LMGs, sniper rifles.

If you have a couple guys stationery behind a clump of rocks with a mortar & several shells plus a machine gun, equipment & stats set to good or great these 2 alone can cause a lot of grief.

4 or 5 well constructed, positioned & equipped elites can literally decimate a squad of 6 mercs providing the terrain is suitable.

However to script such exercises by hand for ..... over 230 maps is a huge task.
Players would likely become depressed at such constant mayhem map after map.
