Hell of a job Mod Squad!

Started playing UC for the first time about 4 months ago and Im about to start the final assault on the queen (going in through P6). Night missions with silenced M4A2's and MP5s were a cake walk up until about mid game when the enemy started seeing me in the dark before I saw them, even with UV gogs and expert Night Ops. This turned out to be not too bad as this is about the same time the Drugs and other sniper rifles started dropping...so I switched to all day ops Wink Sniped my way to glory from there dont you know. SAWs, PKs, SA80 LSWs, AK-109s, AEK-971s and M16A2s have all been in the rotation as well (with a lil GP30 'thump' for groups when necessary). An oh, the molotovs were great in the early game but I found very limited use most of the other grenades from mid game on...too short range. Also, mustard gas just doesnt pack the punch I was used to from JA2 but hey, I got around that with aggressive flanking. Of course my favorite weapon is the .308 Arctic Magnum, one shot kills man...gotta love that. And MUCH BETTER supply of rods and springs in this mod. Also, HP ammo was uber in the early stages, .556 HP in your M4A2 on a night opp, lots of one shot kills. Money management was a challenge early, had to actually spend time selling stuff to raise cash on a couple of occasions. Commando armor and Striker armor with pockets and what not was a great improvement, room for more ordinace in your iventory! Lots of people (and cows, har) to go kill out in the burbs and rural areas so basically all of my mercs are up to level 9 right now as I prepare to attack the queens strong hold. There werent alot of tanks in this mod so I have whole lot of LAWs available and I'm letting loose!

Anyway, all in all a great mod! Looking forward to SOG'69 next! :rulez:

Skip sleeping. You won't regret it.

I think I am one of the last members of the original MOD Squad left form the Deidranna Lives days so I'll say thanks for them.

You guys will probably laugh but I don't think in the three years that has passed since we all started the damn thing that I have ever finished the game even once. Oh wait, I did finish it rioght before I went on a totally solo mission with Rudedog. Yes I had to hire a few mercs as mules and trainers but you get the idea.

Hey lets go ride bikes!

I built a rig out of old parts just to load up Windows 98 and play Urban Chaos Smile

If I won the lottery, I'd buy up the worldwide JA rights, reissue JA2 with DL and UC (with permission of course), and hire the original JA2 team to make a JA3 that doesn't reek.

Too bad I never buy lottery tickets Sad

You do realize that you don't need an archaic OS to play JA2/UC?

We made it on Win2k pro and XP (I believe) mostly.

I'd read about people having weird glitches in XP so figured I'd play it safe. I also have a few other games that really mess up under XP,

W98SE runs well if you keep it clean and use it only for games, no work or web surfing.

I try to stay away from XP except at work where they make me use it.

I run Win2k Pro at home.

IMHO, XP is the AOL of OS's.

I despise them both!

Hi there!!
As an avid JA series fan, being with the AIM legends since our little squabble with mr. Santino back in Metavira, i just downloaded JA2UC and installed it.
Following the tips from the FAQ thread, the install went smooth and slick. Worked on the first try.
Now, i am about to start this great adventure.
Very first impressions: Holy Smoke Beejesus Batman!
This is a friggin whole new game!! Can't believe i ignored it for all those years! God, what i missed!
I love the story, the renewed 'military' look of the intreface and all. Have no mercs/IMP yet, and my first glance at the new map kicked me out of my boots. Geez, counted no less than 70 urban sectors. And the map is fully redone i see. We're not in Arulco anymore! Definately not!

Also, love the 'Tom Clancy' techno-thriller atmosphere in UC. So far so good. I'm like the justice, kinda. Im slow, but i will eventually get there. Definately will keep this old rig with JA2UC installed if the new one i am planning to soon buy refuses to run JA2/JA2UC.

Not sure if 'better late than never'is still acceptable, but KUDOS to all the people who spent part of their lives making this mod. And its free, holy smoke.

Greetiings,

C.

@ -CHAZZ-,

I sincerely hope you get as much enjoyment out of playing as we all did from making it!

Thanks, mate!

All i needed was a mod with some more enemies per sector, more, different guns/eq, and more urban sectors. With UC i think i can check all the checkboxes now.
Finally started the game. This time, for the first time ever, i took MED for my IMP, seeing how the bullets do massive damage now.
Nothing much, liberated the first town (ex Omerta). Was damn tricky with pistols only. Went down to the metro too. Tyrone..ehm the gang head honcho attacked me. luckily, he slashed me for only 11 dmg (missed once hehe). So we pummeled him to death and killed his gang rather easily (using cheap old tricks, hiding behind the corner and hoping for multiple interrupts). It worked and that netted me some nice initial items, medikits etc, and a sawed-off shotgun! my first long barrel weapon. Does truckload of damage too! Encouraged, cocky and horny, i used the metro to some other station. When there, another Gang leader atacked me. This time was harder, lost Igor and Grunty there. That was not acceptable, so i reloaded and decided i'll roam the countryside a bit first. Want to try the night approach, to offset my lack of long range weapons.

Question: how can i raise any cash in UB? Are there mines to control or something?

Negative impression: while some new graphics are really nice and acceptable( cars) soem are rather ehm..bland (bikes in front of the bar with Rude Dog). Biggest gripe so far: the new dialogues. Man, the guys that recorded their chatter could use something better than their $2 headset microphone. Sticking their heads in a bucked while recording was a bad idea too. (joking, but it really sounds lame).
On the other hand, the new (to me) tilesets are absolutely astounding (metro, trains, various shops, house interiors etc). Good locpicker needed! Anyone? Very Happy

Chazz.

P.S.
Never thought mrs. Armand would become the Queen he he Very Happy Eh, did she stole Stephen Hawking's talking machine or what? Her voice is so much Darth-Vaderish!! Very Happy

Hi CHAZZ,

Take the mines to receive money on regular basis.
Let the dumb guy pick your locks. If he can't do it (No, i can't do this. You need somebody else.) you can hire someone else.

Your email or info (forget which) included a map showing a casino a couple of sectors south of the first town. Going there after the first town is a good way to get some equipment and cash.

Just means Sci-fi is not an option. I got it working on my version of UC (big MF Robots) but they had no "nest" underground so could never be wiped out to complete the quest. They dropped weird stuff as well.

Chazz, we all recorded the voices and recruited anyone we could to do it so the sound quality is somewhat lacking. TEh comuterized voices were used where we couldn't get anyone to do it so that is why you have the text to speach versions there.
I will tell you that the mike I used to record me (rudedog, who else?) was not a $2 one though. It cost me a whole 19 bucks!

After testing several mods I like UC the most because of urban combat and of course metro concept. Improved crappy mercs from MERC are finally useful. I never liked Razor or Haywire but now they are in my SG-1 team Smile . New weapons with new optics are great. Good job guys !

I have only been playing it yesterday evening, had I known this was out... could have saved me from "saving" Arulco some 10+ times. I like what I have seen so far, I was kind of surprised when I went to a southern town (Where there used to be the military training in vanilla) ... found out there were some odd 30+ enemies, I ran back out with my 9mm pistol Wink
Like chazz said... the voices realy are dodgy, but hey...

i've loved JA since my first visit to Metavira in, i think, '96. and i've lurked in this forum for years, checking for news and tips. but even after going through Arulco in 1.13 mode twice it was UC that got me to register - to say, as many before me, what a great mod to the great game it is!
it was nice to use familiar equipment, as i have some real-life experience with AKM, RPG7, PK and also with those miserable pistols distributed to soviet officers for resolving domestic conflicts or to be used as paperweights.
it took me over 60 game days and a bit over month in real life to finish it first time - but there are disturbances called "work" in real life. and gamewise for the last dozen or so days i was flying around, liquidating last unfriendly groups and visiting sectors i had not visited before instead of that final push.
there were two casualties on the road. Reuban DID put those red cross stickers on his helmet, following mr Waterhose to the toilet for that little surgical operation of removing his head, but somebody had forgot the anesthesics and the patient turned out to be violent... and for some unknown reason Postie decided to drink that green stuff that is quite useful inhaled or injected, but made him kinda unadequate in combat.
but what an absolute darling is Skitz! this time, i got his RNK only to 6 and MRKM somewhere about 85, but if i had known him sooner... and sure Razor and Haywire are very good in urban environment.
