Is he recruitable? Madam Fong has no videos so no go there - he also says he is very tired so tried giving him an energy boost, sorry, Crepaboost - but he don't want it....

I've got Buzz and Igor training militia in the sector....my IMP and Ayana arrive to sell shit to Betty (and try to recruit Tex)...suddenly, I'm in a hostile sector (after talking to Tex)...Buzz and Igor cannot continue to train militia...is Tex the problem?

Gonna leave and come back to find out...if it persists I reckon I'll pop Tex...never liked him much anyway.....(I'll get the hang of this Rude Dog thing yet! :naughty: )

Damn - something funny then. I didn't waste him, but I can't recruit him...Does it only work if "recruit" is the very first thing you say to him? 'Cos now all I get is the tired speech, no matter who I try to recruit with...

Ok, the correct procedure is to talk to Betty first, either Friendly or Direct iirc. Betty summons him from the toilet, and the you can recruit him. :whoknows: Surprised

The name is Calisto. Smile
He's a cool guy, so I recruited him. With two guns and hollow point ammunition he deals a lot of damage, at least during the first few days.
To fit his image, I gave him a lot of bullets, cigars and then some coke Wink

I couldn't recruit him either.
Okay I'm rather late with this one but it has been bugging me since I met him in Calisto, plus Ive only just come across this post. If its to late now, then I might just send someone back to kill him.
He was so tired I'll put him to sleep.

Just for the record
I actually went back to Calisto for Tex and this time managed to recruit him. Before I used Biff and Ayana with high leadership to try and recruit him both directly and through Betty. This time I took Haywire back with goods of over $1000 to sell and Tex came running out.
Not sure if he is only recruitable after a certain day or if it was down to how much I sold. :whoknows:

I forgot to hire him until looking at this post tonight. I have a feeling this guy is gonna have me rolling on the floor in laughter. Apart from this, his stats look very good for a freebe.

Recruiting Tex seems to be somewhat complicated. At first I got the "tired" dialogue too (with 50+ leadership). But if you speak long enough to Bitchin' Betty (friendly option), she'll start telling you about a famous actor and so on; Tex will get out of the loo and say something; When this "cutscene" is over, Tex is back in his WC, and you can hire him.

So if you want him, keep speaking to Betty until she says the "actor visiting" part.

When I started the dialogue with Betty with friendly, the first thing she told me was about the famous actor, than Tex walked out of the loo. I talked to him friendly, and at a point he told me that he used to be a mercenary too and he offered himself to work for me. I always had this dialogue with my IMP (35 leadership) on day 2-5 when I arrived at Calisto and it always worked for me.

I never got to speak to him while he was outside: Betty and Tex where speaking all the time, so all I could do was watch & listen. Maybe because the "subtitles" option is on? Anyway, after he's finished talking, he's willing to join.

Hmmmmm! I never found Tex outside and speaking with Betty! Of course, I always head go to Betty's shop as soon as that sector is secured.
I do not intend to pry, but what where they talking about? Was it that time when she gave him the six strings guitar, the six shooters and the six pack? Very Happy

Here is the storyline:
Betty tells you about a famous artist visiting the country.
Tex comes quickly out of the loo, says a line or two (don't exactly remember what, sorry), I think about the pistols he used in one of his films.
Betty goes on talking, Tex goes back into the loo and stays there.
End.

Got it! I believed they where talking to each other Yes, he says about the six shooters and then Betty says you can look "but no touch guns". Well, he never went back in to the loo, he even offered himself to work for me. Maybe it's level based. He is level 4 and when I take that sector of Calisto my IMP, who does the talking, is level 4 or 5 (even if his leadership remained at 35).
It's funny the line Tex says when he is the one who finishes the last enemy in a sector: "I talked a lot with Madam Fung. She gave me a six strings guitar, a six shooter and a six pack. And she'll be mine in less than six minutes!" Very Happy

Boomer, that's hilarious, I've never heard hom say that (yet...) Sometimes I've wanted to sit and just go through all the voice files in the folder, but that seems like cheating.

Tex is a killer.

I like to keep cheap but good mercs from the outset so they develop. Tex has 94 mark. right now, and a silenced car-15, got the Rainbow 6 guy from MERC, also with a silenced car-15, IMP 97 mks w/ m4a1 scoped, Ayana w/ M4 scoped, and blood with the mp5, Wolf Steroid and Rude Dogg (gotta do something about his marksmanship, he's 87 now) all have AK-74S lasered / elcan scoped, I'm about to start passing out G3's, I have the rifles and the ammo, just no need yet.

Tex is a great addition to a nightops squad. He's not nightops, but he's camo-ed and that gives him an edge if he's not moving. Good MKS too.

Ayana, the other MERC guy, IMP, tex, blood + suppressed 5.56 = deadly. Wink
