I rescued the reporter from the jail and then talked to the newspaper editor who told me bruce was to the north in the factory district. I am now in a zone which I believe is the correct one and there is no bruce. I also cannot move with the reporter in my squad. Is my game bugged or am I missing something???
Ps THIS GAME ROCKS!!!!!

I'm wondering... is there a way to rescue the reporter without shooting the whole police force to pieces?
OFF TOPIC
There is also a record in my history claiming that I should get the MOC-list (WTF??) to Agent X <-- Like where's the guy?
Evenmore, where did the rebels went to? I've heard some of the townfolks speak about them yet so far I've been unable to discover their hideout..
Does anyone know what to do?

@ KEV:
No, my friend, me and Ramfall were talking different things. This is not about the actual laptop, but about wanting things served in a dish. I am going to speak for myself personnally, and I don't know if the rest of the MODSquad agrees with me.
When playing a game, I like to discover things on my own. Playing for a moment, then Alt-Tabbing to a walkthrough, for example, doesn't do the trick for me. My own actions, be them good or bad, clever or stupid, but still a creation of my thinking is what makes me a part of the game. When playing Starcraft, I am not a guy clicking a mouse, but I am a commander of my own forces, threatened by the Zerg.
That said, when taking part into UC creation I still don't want information served on a dish. I don't feel it's right to tell you to keep that laptop till later, I want you to find it on your own. Selling the laptop was your action, and it doesn't matter if it's good or bad. This is what puts some flavour in your game. At least, that is what I believe and I will try to encourage this.
So, no, I shouldn't have told you to hang on to that.
Quote:Quoting myself:
Perhaps you want a savegame moments before the game is finished as well? My previous post is not relevant to a savegame prior to selling the laptop or not. I was emphasizing that you shouldn't be 'requesting' information like that, again, according to my point of view.
I have to warn you that UC requires you to dedicate some time to it, as with all non-first person shooter games. Since you seem unwilling to restart UC (and that's perfectly fine by me, as I never forced you to download it), you might as well delete it off your hard disk and I'll give you my personnal apologies for wasting your time. If, however, you are willing to sacrifice that time, that's another thing... But I really don't want UC to be such a burden for you. (Who's not busy with his work, by the way?).
Quote:and the last time I checked, I am allowed to give my opinion So am I. Hence, here is my opinion.
Quote:Why do you assume that everyone thinks just like you and would know that they needed the actual laptop item to access the MOC list? Ok, then why did you "assume the MOC list(which is a major part of the mod I'm assuming) would be a diskette or something of the type which once recieved would be listed in the files section of the laptop interface"
??
Quote:and if you have a problem with criticism then you're in the wrong business my friend. First of all, my friend, what does this have to do with critisism? What I personally didn't like is the request for information served on the dish. And when I don't like something I try to discourage this.
Quote:I have a job and am very busy, not gonna spend my life restarting mods over and over again NEWS FLASH! You don't have to! Urban Chaos is supposed to entertain you. If it makes you so angry and dissapointed, then we have failed.
Col Leo Kelly: Hmm, we'll look into this. Try talking to Bruce first, before rescuing Miranda. When talking to her, you got the quest log, did you?

Trailblazer, here is how my log looks:
Day 11, D6 Urban - Battle won.
Day 11, D6 Urban - Rudolph is looking for some Crepaton Documents.
Day 11, D6 Urban - A reporter is rumored to be held captive.
Day 11, D6 Urban - A psychopath named Postie recently escaped.
Day 11, D6 Urban - Rescue Miranda and escort her to Bruce.
Day 11, C6 Urban - Battle won.
And this is where I got stuck. I parked Miranda behind some rocks, took the sector, found Bruce, talked to him, and then brought Miranda to him. At first I thought it might be my fault for "unescorting" her when the battle started, so I replayed the sector without taking her off the team. Same result.
I have done a reload and tried various combinations to trigger the ending sequence. I assume that you are supposed to get some photos that you deliver back to the newspaper owner, because his dialog is something like "Now I have the evidence I need . . ." but the log stays red for the various parts. There must be some trigger that sets off the end sequence but I am not sure what it is.
BTW, next time you do a mod like this, reduce the number of enemies or at least have the decency to include a few body bags in the starting inventory. :naughty:

@ Trailblazer:
You are over analyzing and overreacting. If you feel that a request for information is so wrong why are you even on these forums? Go attack everyone else asking for help or giving critiques. My point was that I think the mod squad should let the gamers know how important the laptop is. I have played JA2 and and UB all the way through without using any cheat codes so your assumption that I only want to "get things served on a platter" or I should play first person shooters is incorrect. Did I ask where the MOC list was? Where all the special guns are? No, but plenty other people in this forum are, go argue with them buddy. Maybe for you, after you get halfway through a game you like to restart and do the same exact things all over again, have the same conversations but I as many other people, do not like this. It is good to discover things the first time, you're right, which is exactly why I don't want to start the game over. As far as you saying that it would put "flavor" in my game not to be able to complete the MOC list quest, isn't that one of the major parts of the mod? I would like to play this mod and experience all if not most of what you guys created, not having to restart and go back over and over again. As far as you saying I should delete UC off my hard drive because it will take time, obviously you didn't read my post, as I stated Ramfall helped me fix the problem. UC does take a long time to play, but I can save it and come back to it, right? You think because I screwed up and sold the laptop I should restart?? I'm sorry, but that would be boring for me, do you like to watch the same TV show or read the same book over and over again? This point I am making IS my criticism; I believe the Mod squad should've let us know to keep the laptop. Do you not understand this? It is my opinion and criticism. And whoever said I was "angry and disapointed" with UC. You are now putting words in my mouth. I am not going to spend any more time arguing with you because it's useless and time consuming, but feel free to waste your time and reply, I'm done. I want to congratulate you on whatever work you did with the mod, but you need a serious attitude adjustment. :ok:

Trailblazer,
I might have found the answer. You get the quest twice, once from Randolph and once from Bruce. I think the secret is you have to kill all the hostiles, talk to Randolph, go to C6, kill the baddies, get the quest again from Bruce, return to D6, kill the police, get the girl, and then return. I never got the quest from Bruce until I killed all the policemen, and by that time I think the rescue had already been tallied because she was out of the D6 sector. The confusion might come in because Randolph tells you where she is, but if you spring her too early, the trigger doesn't work properly.
Or I am missing something, but I have played it several more ways since my first few messages and the order seems to be very important to getting messages, etc. Unfortunately, I don't have a save game close to day 11 where I haven't already rescued her, so if you have a fix I would love to hear it.

@ Col Leo Kelly: I am afraid a fix cannot help you, since if you have already visited this map, any changes in the NPC scripts will not take effect until you restart the game :whoknows: . I will review the matter, and hopefully prevent any such glitches in the expansion/patch/whatever.
@KEVs: I'd like to waste some of my time and reply, be it of use or no. First of all, I have never answered any question similar to "Where is the MOC list" and I will not. However, those that requested information like this did not say "The MODSquad should tell use where the MOC list is"... To answer your question, there are some other topics that I feel I can prove useful, and thus I reply. By the way I read a lot of books twice or thrice, but that's irrelevant.
Quote:And whoever said I was "angry and disapointed" with UC. Not me. There was an IF before...
Do you not understand this?
Alright, of course I do understand this. I just disagree, period. I don't want you to waste anymore time, so end of story. Apologies.

I never found Bruce so I dumped Miranda, and walked away, or to Sheraton, where I found lots of bad guys that I now can serve you for dinner if you like.
Anyways, I found Blair and co, I did get them with me, game froze with the clock, though I only use 1 quicksave slot all the time, but I save VERY often.
So I quit Ja2UC with CTRL + ALT + DEL.
Reloaded, did the blairs got them in this time, and got them to the airport.
And I got a fancy reward.

I got another version of the Miranda problem.
Got the quest from Randolph, tried to bribe the police officers (to no avail) went north and vented some frustration, talked to Bruce, got the quest once again, went back, got Miranda, escorted her north. After talking to Bruce, he acknowleded Miranda's rescue (not before), Miranda un-escorted herself, and there was some dialogue. Bruce told me about some papers for Randolph, but I never got any. Yes, I had a free slot.
When I went back to see Randolph (in case no actual papers were needed), he just told me once again how bad his day had been, so he still thinks Miranda is in jail.
In my log I have the "Miranda rescued" entry. I hope nothing mission-critical was supposed to happen because of those papers.
BTW, I'm using an original 1999 JA2 (UK version).
