However, it's not as simple as it looks to transfer the sounds. The "wav" files for characters in Black Isle games (including those of Torment) can only be used ingame (there's probably some sort of encryption). If you try to play them like an ordinary wav on Media Player, for example, they won't work. I suspect they won't work either if you just copy them to the "Speech" folder in JA2. If there's some way to "decrypt" the wav files, I'm not familiar with it.

Those older games used some fancy files, I recall some games like Grand Theft Auto, spending hours finding the proper codec, proper bit setting and proper KHZ, Once you had it the sounds were able to be played, guess they use the same thing, you need a good sound programme like Cool Edit Pro 2.

Oh! yes. Raven, Ayana, Razor, Spike, Shadow... they are really good but I want also a fun-to-play character, something different.
I think the best one is Rosebud. For me is a must have merc in my A-Team, because he's a weapon himself. Now, my Rosebud has 85 AGI, 80 DEX and 63 MRK!!. He never had a firearm, but I think he has stolen almost all of the other squad's members weapons gear.
Now he's level 5, and with a good camo kit I often hide him behind doors and around corners. When he gets an interrupt, the enemy becomes first stunned, second unarmed and third DEAD. That's for me funniest than blow out the head of a guy 40 squares of distance.
Only her loses of memory caused some chaos between my squad. It's also challenging to save his life sometimes...
Bye.
Tin.

I was wondering who Ayana the people here are talking about, but it's okay, I found her!
I didn't bother checking out the MERC site, but when I saw Ayana, I immediately hired her. Very high stats, and good wisdom. She does look chinese, so the MOD squad would probably have chosen the other girls in Rainbow six, like the blonde one. I'm not bothered by her appearance anyway, she's a real fighter!
I find her real funny. Yeah, I know she's Flo, I mean, look at all her stats. But when she talks she seems not too confident with her abilities, (or she doesn't know she has good skills) yet she drops enemies easily who's unfortunate enough to get in her way!
"I was hoping not to meet them now..." BANG! (Dead); "Oh, no!" BANG! (Dead) Bwahaha!
So, I named my IMP Domingo "Ding" Chavez. It seems right - and he gets to wear the officer's commando vest. :rifle:

[/QB] Icewind Dale's waves are able to be used. I recall BG-engine sounds could not be played, but somehow I used one particular sound from IceWind Dale in JA-GFG (*whistles* Over here? Healing please..." - edited of course). Sadly I don't recall what I did, or if I had difficulty of some kind.

I haven't really played that far into the countryside but I have to tell you that Rude Dog IS my favorite RPC. Ok, so I might be a little biased here but with him and my IMP, BobKat, its like I have two alter egos in game. They are racking up kills like crazy. On day five they are fast approaching 200 apiece while Tex, Rosebud, and Postie are getting close to 100 each.
I only hired Gasket and Gumpy to haul equipment and train militia. No one from the outside Danubia is fighting in my game except for BobKat and when the militia trainers get attacked. well, I got to say, Rude Dog is my favourite, if I encounter problems, and Magic and IMP is busy, I call Rude Dog, he gets the job done right.
Good thing is that he doesn't go psycho, and that is a good thing about him.
Also Love Rude's comments, try making him talk to himself, use the talk function on him, made me laugh.
Rude Dog, you sure made your way into my squad.

No one mentions Trevor ? I always play with Trevor cause he's so good at lockpicking, and his (scottish ? irish ?) accent is excellent.

I think the reason for ppl saying she looks chinese is just the skin tone. It doesn't look like too much effort was made to match the palette of the other JA2 merc pictures so the yellowish cast of her skin stands out a lot.
As to favorites, I went with my old standbys from previous games. Custom Merc, Ice, Wolfe, Fox, and Grizzly. I developed a certain fondness for Tex in UB so I picked him up too. Most of the new mercs don't do much for me so they're mostly relegated to humping gear around, but I'm trying to train up a B squad consisting of Haywire, Razor, Morgan, Fidel and a couple of other crazy types I can't remember at the moment. I use this psycho squad for mostly daylight fighting and it's cost a few their lives so far but I don't really miss the ones that died. Spike and Cobra have taken dirt naps so far but Cobra was pretty devoid of a personality so no one on the squad seemed to care, and no one liked Spike calling everyone boy much so he wasn't missed either.
Of the new mercs I think I like Morgan the best. His lines are ok and he's just nasty with burst fire with his autoweapons expert trait.

Grunty,
Maddog isn't new my friend. He was always in Estoni and he still loved breaking stuff.
Have you run into Postie, Skitz, Reuben, Spike, Cobra, Kelly, or AH HEM, RUDE DOG?
I agree with some of the views you point out, ie Razor/ Gasket, but overall we weren't going back to Arulco and we were REMAKING the entire game or as much of it as we could. Hence, TWO AND A HALF YEARS in the making! (He says while still muttering incoherently and shaking his head in disbelief at the sheer length of time it took.) :innocent:

Of the mercs you've mentioned I've only run into postie and Rude Dog (although did see some of those mercs in JA1).
I sort of like Rude Dog but hate him. He's got fairly good stats, is free, night ops, two "bazookas" but he's annoying when he's searching for items. That phrase he always makes when he doesnt really like the item.
I respect the amount of time and dedication. This mod has restirred my interest in an old game, for which I'm thankful (sorta - I've been up to 3am in the mornings).
I would really like it if Miranda the reporter was made into a playable character - the voice acting is good quality, the portrait quality is good.
I checked out the new Numb and the new Cougar. Cougar has had his level upped to about level 8 (because of his high level starting point this time - I think he'll definitely be much more economical than the top AIM mercs with similar/better stats), most of his stats seem the same (don't know about abilities cause I haven't hired him).
Numb's stats on the other hand have had a major overhaul. Numb lvl 3, Hlth 84,AGI92,DEX91,STR98!!!!,wis70,mark88. Numb is a monster! He still has Night Ops - because of his stats and NightOps I think he's probaly better than Magic - unless Magic has had NightOps applied?
BTW is Gaston and that other merc making an appearance at M.E.R.C.? Or any other mercs from A.I.M. or M.E.R.C.?

About favorite new Merc...
Rosebud
Definitely Rosebud he's nearly as funny as my favourites Fidel, Razor, Haywire, Maddog and Spooky.
Also a good Mechanic, best Crowbaruser ever and devastating in Close Combat. Glad to have him along.
Rude Dog is great too just not as funny as Rosebud.
