How can i make some cash to pay for my mercs?

At the moment it is end of week 1 and i have 3 mercs but only $1500 left. I have cleared out Atremo - but i haven't found anywhere to sell my spare gear.

As a matter of interest how much do you get for the crepaton heads?

Are there any quests that can get you some cash?

thanks

You've played the stock version of JA2; right? The fundamental structure of UC is the same. Mines have been changed to crepaton plants, but they are in the same locations, and their function is the same. You need to take control of those to get yourself a steady income. Head for Calisto.

There are other ways to make money (including lots of spare cash lying around), but the crepaton plants should be your primary source of income.

Check every container in Atremo (desk, cupboard, ...), you may find some money or wallet into.

Then two options. Either go to Calisto and secure the first crepaton factory (ie talk to the head miner in D13, after having cleared the sector). You will get a regular income depending on the town loyalty. The income will increase with the loyalty. Or go south to rob the casino (check the intel file, laptop / file). In Caliso you can find somebody to sell some stuff to.

Be prepared for a big fight whether option you choose. To help, There are two very cheaps mercenaries you can recruit in Atremo (A9 and A10), to reinforce your team.

Use the "mines" button on the strategic map to see the position of all the crepaton factories and check the intel file (laptop) to see the position of the casinos and or banks you can rob. There are others quests in the game to get money, information,... Don't forget to talk to the civvies and especially to the named characters for valuable info and to trigger quests. High leadership may help to recruit.

The mechanics of JA2 are still present. Go and get talk to the plant (mine) supervisors where they were in Drassen, etc...

Go to Betty in Calisto. Sell her all the spare uniforms you've got. That will make you a more than decent buck.

As mentioned in several different posts...start your game with a modest squad. Expensive mercs will eat up your limited cash in the beginning of the game. One good merc with your IMP and maybe a service (medic/mechanic)merc is all you need to start...plus you can recruit a couple of RPCs early too.

I is very tough early on because the larger urban areas take longer to clear, whihc means healing, and more time spent in the first city. In JA2 I was out of the arrival city in 6 hours and took the first mine within a day. In UC it took me 4 days to escape city #1 and then I only took the crepaton factory after 6 days.

The casino rob is the only way to sustain even cheap mercs and is worth $20k+

I don't really understand how you can guys need 4 to 7 days to clear out four sectors.
I was in Calisto on day two. Could've been there in day one too, if I'd been more carefull with my mercs. Started of with semi decent mercs. 2 of them together with my IMP and Rosebud makes a team of 4. I play on expert (all beta-testing) or experienced (now).
Anyway, as most of the people already pointed out, reaching sector E13 (I think) will get you a steady income.

edit: Oh, and UC is supposed to be more difficult than ja2. Since most of us already finished ja2 a zillion times or so. Try novice if you really are having a hard time.

It's called getting shot and it happens some times and when you get hit healing takes quite awhile. I took a furious beating in the second sector and got bogged down from there and put my entire operation off whack.

It takes a lot longer to play if you don't keep reloading all the time during a fight.
Having a merc badly injured means you need to either
- leave him to heal himself and carry on without him.
- leave him and a medic and carry on without them
- all stick around and wait for the healing.
- take him with you with his low HP and hope he does not get killed.

Although, it's likely if you haven't 'cheated' you'll have more than one injury.

The trick is to duck for cover if someone is shooting at you. Smile
No, really, I do reload when one of my mercs dies or gets shot unconscious, but most of the time I move around with half my crew having health around 50 or 60 and only like 12 to 15 ap's. ...quite frustrating sometimes.

yeah, talk about frustrating when your mercs get shot up. I've got a nice quick fix (well, not that quick but fast enough) ..one word...crepatonboost Smile My IMP was shot up and had 25 percent health in Calisto, and my plans to take the first SAM site had to be shelved. But using crepatonboost (maybe 2-3) almost healed my IMP immediately. Talked about a healing spell. This is it. The flip side is the item description warns against taking more than 4 a day. Havent tried that though.

I also usually bring along an injured merc but keep him at the back or as a decoy (depending on the situation and my needs). A drwaback of having a small team you could say

I try to keep my mercs in good shape because I use a pretty small team. Then again, I quickload a lot, but IMO UC cannot be done in Ironman mode. Most likely you'd run out of mercs or money before clearing half the towns.

Truer words were never spoken!

It's a game and meant to be enjoyed in what ever style you play.

If you really need money and your troops aren't up to the Casino...try JAPE.

It's a wonderful little utility that allows nearly any changes you need. It's downloadable at the Galaxy site associated with this forum.

With it you can give your troops what you need to continue.

Later you can play the game again with some experience and not need it.

Best
Andy
