When I arrived in Port Kip, the police were not hostile towards me ... a welcome change. Unfortunately, in talking to the police themselves as well as the newspaper editor, I find they are just as corrupt as the other police around the country. Still, I left them alone. Went north to find the camera guy and he wanted me to free Miranda from the police. The only way I could see to do that, was to kill off the police ... no back entrances or the like. Since they weren't hostile, I had to fire the first shot. Problem was, my mercs morale plummeted as I killed them. Is that supposed to happen? It sure made the next battle a pain with the constant whining on the entire squad. Lost the battle too. Don't know if the low morale made my mercs fight more poorly, but it sure was annoying none-the-less. If I have to live with it, any ideas on how to get morale back up?

Thanks for any comments.

Yeah, it took me a little while to figure it out, but I did so without taking out any coppers.

When Miranda and the Photographer met up, I expected to get something from the photographer to take to the publisher or something, but nadda. I went to the publisher to talk with him, and he didn't seem to say anything new. I went back to the photographer to offer him some cash, but he was gone and I had saved after I'd returned Miranda. I am afraid I missed some vital clue, but I don't know and I've gotten so far into the game that I don't want to start over. I'm sure I could win the game with brute force in time, but I would rather solve the mysteries.

I am both highly impatient at solving these quests, and impressed with the difficulty of the game at intermediate level. It's taking me forever, but every new battle is unique and I like that. I do miss the easy sectors where you could take one merc and a Druganov and have some fun, but not enought to complain. This game is a godsend to the JA2 fanbase. In many ways it's better than the original. The RPC's and NPC's are funny as hell. I tried to recruit Miranda and the response made me fall out of the chair laughing - it was so unexpected!

Yeah, but it better be a well placed blast or poor Miranda is buying the farm :crossbones:

Blast, you said ? That's my favorite business Very Happy

I expected that the cells were furnished all the same way so that if I was blasting the wall where I was hoping there was a bed. Done it during the day so that the gal would not be in bed  haha

Worked like a charm and the local police is still friendly. They must be stupid : they couldn't figure out who has done the job, despite they know my name Wink

Thanks for the comments. But, to be honest, it's just really silly that you blow a huge hole in the side of a police station, and none of the police cares 1) that you did that and 2) that you released their prisoner. Yeah, it's a game, but .... So, since doing that type of thing would normally result in some kind of fight, I just started it myself. Heck, I even tried going there at night and they didn't attack me like other police forces did. Oh well, they were corrupt anyway. 'Course, my morale was in the toilet for a while, but I did some errand running and ammo gathering jobs afterwards (I was in dire need of ammo for my good weapons, anyway) so by the time I went back into battle, everybody had forgotten all about it. Smile

Gee, just kill 'em all, they're corrupt and they're gonna torture Miranda. I'm heading back to Port Kip and slaughter them all. If the morale drops, it'll be back in a second (probably).

If you want the fantasy of realism, consider it happening this way...

You sneak in at night, silently remove the bars on her cell window and whisk her off into darkness.

It's eminently doable in real life, however the game has it's limits on what we can do.

So the blast is symbolic of a silent, nighttime rescue.

Demolition job on the jail cell was no problemo. In order to assure Miranda doesn't die or injure from a friendly blast, I placed one merc in front of the cell window. I can see her pacing back and forth. If she walk toward the , time to bring down the small wall of Jericho :diabolical: :rifle: .

Nah...You can free Miranda in the heat of battle so the cops won't notice the blast, even so, you can just walk in the Police Station, walk into the cell next to Miranda, put charges, recruit Miranda, butcher all the Reds and as soon as the game turns real-time again just walk out of the sector.

Alternatively of course, you could take the easy way out, by simply walking in whilst none of the cops are watching, and walk right on out, thats exactly how I did it. Had Miranda walk right past all the cops and none of them lifted a finger to stop her.

Bruce the photographer is supposed to give you an item after rescuing Miranda .... according to the script but I think there were problems with the way Kingpin, Miranda, Bruce, Editor Randolph Hearse interacted & the order in which response speeches were triggered.

Theoretically you would take this item from Bruce to the Editor who hands over a substantial reward then skips town along with Miranda & Bruce who you never see again.

No problems about the item gotten from Bruce. BUT, the first time i played UC, besides that, Bruce gave me the Strikervest he offers for 1K when you meet him the first time. Now i started over after installing the patch and Bruce only gave me the documents

I tried giving him 1K, used all the conversation options but nada...So did i do something wrong?

I just thought I would note that in my game, Bruce asks for $950, but the text bubble says $1000. And it is $1000, because he does not accept $950. I am sure this will be patched...
... I just wanted to let any newer players know that if your inventory is full and you give someone money and it is refused, it will end up at your feet. So don't kill 'em too hastily. Razz

Also, JA has a bug where the game will hang if your forgetful merc tries to give something to someone from far away AND he has a stupid moment while on his way. I think my reason for doing this had been my full inventory at the time.

Where exactly is Bruce? I cleared all of the sectors north of Port Kip and found nothing. BTW two sectors, Port Kip subway at an office and B2(I think)at a fireplace showed an exit. In both cases I heard a splashing sound and wound up at my desktop. Did this happen for anyone else? :wb:

Hmm seems you rescued Miranda first and *then* talked to Bruce. That was intentional, but since this is dumb, it will be corrected.

@Trailblazer

Nope, talked to the wanker first then rescued Miranda. Thanx for patching this in the future.

I started over again yesterday after i found out there's a CAR-15 in the Atremo subway section, which makes it a lot easier to take Atremo then it is with two bloody Makarov's. When i reached Port Kip i just gave Bruce the $1000 for the vest. I'm gonna let Miranda rot in jail this time Very Happy
