When I arrived in Port Kip, the police were not hostile towards me ... a welcome change. Unfortunately, in talking to the police themselves as well as the newspaper editor, I find they are just as corrupt as the other police around the country. Still, I left them alone. Went north to find the camera guy and he wanted me to free Miranda from the police. The only way I could see to do that, was to kill off the police ... no back entrances or the like. Since they weren't hostile, I had to fire the first shot. Problem was, my mercs morale plummeted as I killed them. Is that supposed to happen? It sure made the next battle a pain with the constant whining on the entire squad. Lost the battle too. Don't know if the low morale made my mercs fight more poorly, but it sure was annoying none-the-less. If I have to live with it, any ideas on how to get morale back up?
Thanks for any comments.

Yeah, it took me a little while to figure it out, but I did so without taking out any coppers.
When Miranda and the Photographer met up, I expected to get something from the photographer to take to the publisher or something, but nadda. I went to the publisher to talk with him, and he didn't seem to say anything new. I went back to the photographer to offer him some cash, but he was gone and I had saved after I'd returned Miranda. I am afraid I missed some vital clue, but I don't know and I've gotten so far into the game that I don't want to start over. I'm sure I could win the game with brute force in time, but I would rather solve the mysteries.
I am both highly impatient at solving these quests, and impressed with the difficulty of the game at intermediate level. It's taking me forever, but every new battle is unique and I like that. I do miss the easy sectors where you could take one merc and a Druganov and have some fun, but not enought to complain. This game is a godsend to the JA2 fanbase. In many ways it's better than the original. The RPC's and NPC's are funny as hell. I tried to recruit Miranda and the response made me fall out of the chair laughing - it was so unexpected!

Thanks for the comments. But, to be honest, it's just really silly that you blow a huge hole in the side of a police station, and none of the police cares 1) that you did that and 2) that you released their prisoner. Yeah, it's a game, but .... So, since doing that type of thing would normally result in some kind of fight, I just started it myself. Heck, I even tried going there at night and they didn't attack me like other police forces did. Oh well, they were corrupt anyway. 'Course, my morale was in the toilet for a while, but I did some errand running and ammo gathering jobs afterwards (I was in dire need of ammo for my good weapons, anyway) so by the time I went back into battle, everybody had forgotten all about it.

Bruce the photographer is supposed to give you an item after rescuing Miranda .... according to the script but I think there were problems with the way Kingpin, Miranda, Bruce, Editor Randolph Hearse interacted & the order in which response speeches were triggered.
Theoretically you would take this item from Bruce to the Editor who hands over a substantial reward then skips town along with Miranda & Bruce who you never see again.
