I'm quite impressed with the increased lethality of explosives in this game. Tanks are a lot easier to take out since a single LAW or RPG can do the job whereas I've used up to 4 once in JA2.

But the first tank I took out was in a sector where I wasn't expecting one (ie. not in a JA2 tank sector). Consequently, I had no LAWs or RPGs. I did have hand grenades and 40mm grenades so I decided to try and take it out.

The first few grenades did practically nothing (4 pts total) but then I got the idea of targetting the hatch. In movies you see the heroic GI lob a grenade down the turret hatch of a tank so I decided to give it a try.

If you set your targetting cursor to the 2nd level, you can get a red X right on the turret hatch. I targetted this spot and lobbed a hand grenade. Boom! 26 pts! This worked so well I tried it again and the tank blew up!

So if you find yourselves in the same situation, try lobbing a grenade onto the 2nd level of the tank.

Ha! Ha! Great. My first tank battles are always the same. No anti-tank weapons. LOL

I think I needed 3 of the high damage 40mm grenades to take out a tank from the rear. I love your hand grenade idea. Hand grenades are definitely more expendable. Very Happy

Oh, well, I thought the infantry support for the tanks was improved in UC... so that made up for the tank's weakness.

Edit: on further reflection, I think I may be being a bit too generous to the Mod Squad. Razz Linda really did some excellent work on the JA2 sectors with tanks in them.
Opinions on best tank maps in JA2 (mods included)?
