Howdy all, just completed game in Experienced with NO expert. Thinking of starting an Expert game with NO/Ambidex IMP. He's going to try solo/duo (maybe Ayana or Shadow), too.

Is this unrealistic or are there pistols/SMGs that can help him/them make it through the end game? Only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Varjags or Uzis...

It won't be easy. There are SMGs (those of Tex, forgot the name) which are quite good, but they have got a very short range, like pistols. That means that very fast, enemies will shoot you at ranges where you can't riposte.

There are also the Aek's and the Scorpios that several of my mercs use as a silenced secondary weapon.
Ambidextorous is only useful in the 1st half of the game when you encounter few enemies with long range weapons. After that it of no real benefit.

It really depends on your play style, your max effective range is something like 14 when using two Agrams. Even though the game emphasizes CQB is seems that most people prefer the relative safety of sniping. However . . . .

I think that ambidextrous is one of the most powerful traits in the game, far better than AW, and that CQB is more effective than sniping (and more fun). Fully upgraded Varjags (recommend these over Agrams; you can fire Varjags one or two more times per round) are very light and so fast that you should be able to fire off a dozen or more rounds per turn when paired. If you are planning on doing mostly night missions or CQB then the range shouldn't be much of a drawback (aimed shots at range 20 still hit about half the time as well). You can stop/kill enemies with a 4 AP interrupt. HP ammo knocks people out fast.

In my all girls game Vicki and Meltdown are both unholy terrors (I'm nearing the end of the game and they still have Varjags). There have been so many times where one of those two has walked into a room with 3 BGs and killed them all in one turn Smile

yup, all nightops, 2-man team, up-close and personal, that's the challenge i guess (even though the latter part won't allow 1-headshot kills)

You will get plenty of 2-headshot kills though Smile
