First of all, no, this isn't about the pile of burp guns one could steal from Carmen due to the "bug" that his inventory will respawn if he was not killed. It's about real kicka** guns for the northern half of Dabunia, namely, three AKM and three AKS-74 than can be obtained (read: stealed) in the night of day 1.
Those weapons are in sector G11, on the civilians near the CIA vans. The way I do it is this: after stealing Carmen's weapon at the end of the fight in A9 Atremo, I go down in the subway to kill Shark and his gang. After I get the CAR-15, head back to surface in A9 and go to the strategic map and order my mercs to go to sector B10 via B9. Of course, they will stop in B9, but I do not engage the enemies there. I simply place the squad(s) on the north-eastern edge of the map and leave the sector to the east. After my squad(s) entered B10 and cleared the sector, I recruit Rude Dog and take care of the bikers. When the last biker is pushing up weeds I loot the sector (I leave in this sector all the items I consider that are not worth to be hauled and head with my squad(s) to south. I set sector D10 as their destination and when they reach it I order them to rest untill it's 16:00 hours. Then I move them to east, in sector D11. If there is an enemy patrol in that sector, I just order my squad(s) to move to sector E11 using the same way they got from A9 to B10.
If there are no enemies in E11, thing are clear: there is no barn with a Dragunov in this sector, so I order my mercs to travel down to F11. If there are enemies in the sector, I look on the map if there is a house and a barn on the map. If the answer is positive, then I retreat to D11, clear the sector and wait for the night to re-enter E11. After clearing E11, I look in the barn to see how lucky I was (in the best case it must be a Dragunov and two Vepr, one of them with a PSO-1 scope). Be aware not to count on the loot in this sector: in 9 out of 10 games the barn and the house where not present.
After dealing one way or another with the E11 sector, it's time to head for F11. Once there, I rest my mercs for a couple of hours if needed and then I enter in the G11 sector. Usually, there are 12 red shirts in this sector. Also, there is a police car in the middle of the map with two policemens near it. The red shirts are dropping only sawed-offs (sometimes one or two AEK-919Ks or a Agram). The two policemen are not hostile, but I always shoot them: one drops an MP5 and the other a Saiga12k.
When the sector is cleared of enemies, it comes the time for the real job! First of all, I open the chests and take the Crepagen, the money and the Crepaton bottles. Then I move all my mercs but three of them away from the convoy. The first civilian I attack is the one that stands between the second van and the chest. He has a AKS-74, one of my favourite assault rifles in the game. I place a merc (it must not be a good guy and must have very good health!) in prone position in front of him at 10-12 tiles away and other two on the opposite side of the van. The merc in prone position (wich must be in the sight of the civilian) shoots him in the leg. The civilian pulls out his gun and fire at my merc once or twice (most of the time the merc takes up to 50 or even 60 points of damage - here is essential were you position him - the merc must be seen by the civilian or otherwise he will not pull out his gun and if ypu simply kill him he will not drop any items and at the same time the merc must have some cover so he wouldn't be hit two times by the sivilian). After the civilians turn is over, the two mercs behind the van run to him, beat him and one of them steals his weapon.
I usually do not kill those civilians (otherwise my mercs morale drops to the ground), so I take care of the remaining civilians mostly in turn-based mode. After his weapons is stealed, the civilian will not try to fight with the mercs: he crouch and will protect hid head with it's arm, like the civilians in a town in the middle of a fight, but the mercs will still consider him an enemy.
The civilians will "provide" you with six very good weapons to use from the dawn of day 2, but you will need to hire some extra mercs from AIM to take this approach. When I try to do this, I hire 7 or even 8 AIM mercs, all of them for a day except Spider (whom I hire for a week or two). I try to complete the game without reloading if someone dies and that why I need that many mercs (there not much Crepagen in those chests, and a single merc cannot fire at more than two civilians and heal his wounds with Crepagen after each of them was turned hostile.) After I steal those guns, I dismiss the mercs I do not intend to use in the first couple of weeks and extend the contracts of the others with the refunded health insurance.
It's up to you to try this way to obtain better weapons and to choose what you want to do next. I always hit the Casino in D9 in the night of day 2 and then head to Port Kip to clear at least Tony's and Smithy's sectors so I can start to stockpile on ammo.
