Hey guys,

I lost my laptop stepping on mines. Don't even know why but it just disappeared, it didn't even become useless. Since I did not feel like starting over again or resorting to a much older save game I decided to use JAPE32. I found out quite quickly that it was only truly compatible with the original JA2 and only shows items that were in that game. Since I don't have access to the source code there wasn't much I could change about that. Might not even be worth it as it seems that the UC modders just changed the appearance and stats of items but not actually the name where JAPE pulls them from.

So I made a list of JA2 items appearing in JAPE and what they are in UC. If somebody wants this excel spreadsheet just drop me a line and I will e-mail it to you(thies_windu@hotmail.com). A note though, some items like the LMG that Mike drops or a spent LAW will not show up in JAPE. They will just show up as UNKNOWN.

Well done! I had a similar problem when using a 'forced' version of proedit. This list might be a cool thing to add to the FAQ.

Excellent. It would be more better if can contact the author of JAPE32 editor and have him modify it to allow it to be compatible with UC. If it's not possible to persuade him, any of you guy up to the challenge to create UC version JAPE32 or modify it. Before you modify JAPE32, you may want to request permission from the author.

It would also be interesting if there are other versions of JAPE for Unfinished Business, DL, and Wildfire. Since I already finished UB and DL, I can't wait for the Wildfire version. I would love to get my hands (actually my mercs) on those V-94 rifles.

I wouldn't mind making the conversion if I can get the source code for JAPE32. Since it is a VB project I can't reverse engineer or decompile it. So for now the excel spreadsheet will have to do. I am going to send the excel sheet to you Drakkcon. Thanks for the offer.

Maybe we can put the link right below JAPE in the downloads section? Mods...comments?

The tables here would be great as a supplement to the JA2UC item lists that Hans has created. You could put the vanilla JA2 item name in a column right next to the JA2UC item name. The only problem I see would be for the things that aren't in Hans' lists, like ammo and miscellaneous items that would need their own section. This could be fixed by converting everything to an Excel sheet, however not everyone has Excel for whatever reason. Of course you might be able to coax Hans into putting up a miscellaneous section with information on the extraneous items.

Oh, I should have added that the first column is the urban chaos name, the second is the original jagged alliance name that appears in JAPE.

You cannot give yourself a napalm projector using JAPE, because it is not possible to equip yourself with queen spit (not a valid item under the original game so it was edited out of the inventory list for JAPE.)

Note that you can use WEDIT on urban chaos.

I did this by renaming JA2_UC.EXE to JA2.EXE (Backing up the JA2.EXE that was there first).

You can then use WEDIT to extract the weapon data and to put it back.

When done, rename your modified JA2.EXE program back to JA2_UC.EXE and put your backed up version of the JA2.EXE that was there back in the game folder.

This works because urban chaos was based on Jagged Alliance 2 version 1.07, which WEDIT can work on.

So you can edit the weapons stats, and rules for how items combine.

I use WEDIT version 2.41.

Wow, thanks for all that info CatSpam. As I've progressed through UC I've been recieving an embarrasment of equipment riches just playing legit, but it's good to have the tools needed to customize the experience just in case.

If you use JA2IE-editor it generates an associated Itemdesc. This can be copied and renamed to itmdsc25 which pro-edit then uses. It can also be used by the UB map editor so you know what you're placing in a map for certain.
