Have you guys found reuban, skitz and postie to be usefull. They don't really have good MRK, Wisdom nor LDR.. so they aren't really the best choise for trainig militia and they don't learn so fast.
For what purpose are you using them.. just fighting? Ou and a nother question. What is the max limit of merc. Is it 20 or 18.

PS. while I'm at it I might just ask(too tired to search). Could you but a list of all hireable NPC's.. I hope the max limit is 20or no limit, because I want to be able to hire the three mercs from that "secret place"

:type: fiuu.. :type:

Do I still use Reuban, Skitz, and/or Postie? Always.

I hire Postie to get his postal truck and then give him the boot. I think that it costs the initial $500 which isn't to bad for a used vehicle, and a lot cheaped then the $10,000 to get the hummer.

I do like both Tex and Rosebud. They are good for basic infantry grunt work at the beginning of the game, and then become repair/supply specialists as I get more money to hire a better team.

Oh, I forgot, Rude Dog rocks, with an M4 to boot:) His napalm launchers help turn the battle with Claudia and her goonies south of Calisto.

Postie and Skitz are just fun to have, not really good but can still hit the target often enough to round out a squad of better mercs.

I also don't mind letting them get shot up if someone needs to open a door with a soldier behind it Smile

I have to totally disagree with you ... Reuban and Skitz in every one of my games have been able to get to level 8 or 9 and have marksmanship in the high 90's. They hit often, and when starting out, just give them a good gun, like a CZ700M and watch them pop the enemy like zits. Dont train them in the trainer / student method just use then alot. Put them in a lower level group and let them patrol the countryside around your captured towns. They will rise very fast and before you know it you will find yourself wondering why you disliked them.

Rather than spending... Forever trying to train their agility and dex up. I kinda changed it in Proedit.. I realize that 92 dex and agility isn't normal for their stat range, but Maddog had those when I first recruited him!

After rescuing them, I'm trying to take over Atremo... But because I keep keeling over laughing, I'm having a hard time concentrating on the mission!

Its hard for me to pick an absolute favorite merc. But I really love Skitz. He's so psychotic that he makes Razor and Haywire seem. well.. sane!

"Wow...." He says after bursting lead at an enemy and seeing them spill blood all over.

"This one is gonna die... with suprise plastered across the face."

Actually... All of his lines are scary.

For a guy who wiped out his family with a battery powered hedge trimmer, Reuban seems.. Well. Really friendly!

"You like Reuban? Ahh, Reuban like you too!"

"Kill woman? It make heart warm!"

While perhaps one of the nicest guys I met, he has nothing nice to say about those who incur his wrath.

"Nobody miss you... Pig dog!"

With their AN-94 Abakan, They can burst fire pretty much constantly ^^

Well, they got my vote. Hope they get put into a new JA game eventually. Hopefully unchanged. If it were possible.

I just had to add the
"I like kill people... I like it very much."

I agree with (the) LegacyOfApathy that Skitz's lines are scary. (try on headphones)

To me Reuban&Skitz are similar to the old Razor&Haywire, low on mrk but psycho to compensate for this.

Put cos DNA brought it up I just might ad something here.
Yet after a year playing I really haven't found any good solutions to use thse guys EXCEPT Postie.
That guys sure can sneak around.
Once I cleared a whole urban sector by just using him and his handy dandy throwing knives Smile

Let Reuban and Skitz shoot civies. Their stats will go up. And hitting cows will raise their strenght. Wink

They refuse to hurt civillians XD

As a rule, I don't hurt people unless they are trying to kill me. Or if I hate them personally.

Slightly off topic: The less morally inclined mercinaries won't loose morale if they kill civvies with their bare hands. O.o

Learned this with Dr.Q back in 'nam. Killing things with your hands is a huge morale booster.

What I think I'll do, is have them travel each sector and shoot every enemy partrol that they encounter. Yeah, that'll work.

You are right there, but you have to try everything Smile the first time. Hitting and killing cows will raise AGI, DEX, strenght and level!

There is one problem: I ran out of cows Wink

You could: spare the cows when they're critical and come back another day.
But Reuban/Skitz and not-killing, just doesn't seem right.

I have used everyone in just about any capacity that could be imagined from having them set off a freaking satchel charge on topof themselves by accident with enemies outside the door to being a mule and just hauling the loot to Tony to sell.

I am currently running a campaign where only Rudedog does the fighting. I wonder why he's my favorite merc?

I've never really used Reuban that much in UC, he just never really appealed to me. I gave Skits an Uzi and a ton of ammo and never needed to replace that weapon, it suits him down to the ground!

I always use Rosebud and Maddog as snipers in my UC games. Give 'em an AWM or CZ700M and they can, with pretty much standard stats, hit anyone in the torso, from any range and their marksmanship shoots up really fast too.

I didnt really use Cobra at all, he didnt seem to have anything that I couldnt get with Shadow (hmm.. and excuse to play though UC again!). Spike got the job of lugging the RPG around Danubia and was damn effective with it, along side his M16A2 (why can I never find one of those for my other mercs?) and Kelly Got an M249 and joined the rest of my machine gunners (IMP, Buzz, Ivan, Morgan, Ice, Grizzly [the image of him hammering away with an M249 overrides all other considerations], etc).

Rude Dog rocks and is fantastic in just about every role that one can come up with for him.
