Hey fellas,

I have a few questions about using editors to customize UC. I know there are threads that already sort of answer them, but they don't completely answer them. Sorry for the long post. So, here goes:

1) I want to use proedit to change merc attitudes and whatnot in UC, but when I try to open it, it says that it is not compatible (or something) with JA2. I know it is supposed to work only for UB, but I've read of people using it in UC as well. How?

2) Can I use the JAIO editor to change the items I can put in my armor (i.e. wire cutters, remote trigger, plates etc.), and if so, which file am I looking for when I open the editor. I can't figure out which file it wants to look in for info. I'm using just the JAIO as it is linked on this site, whith no updates or anything else. I'm assuming the JAWAE is the correct program to use here. Am I correct?

Hey Jerry.
If you download the UC Utilities pack there should be a compatable Proedit included there. Also in this pack I believe there is a compatable weapon editor (I'm not exactly sure here since most of my experience is with modding 'vanilla' Ja2).

The latest version of the weapon editor (version 2.4) is what you want. Use this in conjunction with Excell for best results or you can use it with Batman's Desktop Editor.

To my knowledge, the AIO editor only works well with the regular 1.03 Ja.exe. Any other time I've tried using it I get those same incompatability messages.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Where is the UC utilities pack? Also, what is Batman's editor called again? I know I've seen it before, but it's been a while.

There is a built in 'Pro edit' in the JA2\Data\Binarydata folder.

The proedit tip is great. I had no idea it was there. As to my other question, though, I may need to explain what I want to do a little better.

I like to use Trevor as my explosives guy, and I want to modify the striker pants so that they can hold items useful to him (wire cutters, remote bomb trigger, first aid and maybe a camo kit or something). I know this must work as a file that defines what attachments can go with what. I just don't know how to modify said file. Can anyone tell me if this is a possible modification, and if so, what files I need to modify and what is the easiest program to use?

thanks

weedit. you will have to disable other attachments to have new ones. there are limited slots...

weedit lets you extract an excel spreadsheet, where you can modify ingame stats (like weapon range or damage) as well as attachments, combinations and the like

scroll down for "attach" and look for the attachments to overwrite

place your new attachments over those.

well yeah, gotta watch attachments order, it might be it does only work, if all attachments where you attach the same item (e.g remote trigger)follow each other. otherwise it may not work...

getting stuff out of pants costs 5 AP by the way... so its rather useless but it might be fun...

Batman's Desktop Editor is what it's called. Should still be available at Ja Galaxy and or Lords of the Bytes (links are at top of page).
Look through those sites (under downloads), you're likely to find a lot of goodies you might not even know you want yet.

UC Utilities should also be available through Ja Galaxy.

Follow, the scorpion's tips on working with the pants. It's a little tricky, but if you play around with it you should get it.
If not, just ask.

I've been trying WEEDIT (every version I can find) and none of them gives me an excel document. It seems like it is trying to go into DOS mode, but the window opens and closes almost instantly. Then nothing. I found Batman's desktop, but I don't see how to edit attachments. Sorry. I'm kind of slow at this stuff. Thanks for your help though.

You have to open Weedit in Excel. In other words run Excel and open Weedit from that program.

An easier (but less extensive) way to do this is to open Weedit in Batman's desktop editor.
Read the readme really good and do a search on this forum and you might get it.

If not, just ask and I'll walk you through it.
