the importance of the laptop depends on whether you want to get the M.O.C list or not. If you do, you'll need it, and IIRC, the one you get from Carmen is the only one in the whole game.

It is the only one in the entire game so sadly, you should restart.

What shall i do? Give the MOC list to Kingping for the reward in exchange or shoot Kingping and his bodyguards en get the 20.000 on him? Does it effect the game story?

No, it's not. In sector D4 you can kill Hearst (newspaper chief-redactor) after resolving "Miranda quest". He has laptop too.

I don't recall him having one also but then again I kill everybody sooner or later so....

Maybe it was the decoder that was the only one.

Remember that I haven't played it the entire way through but once in like four years after play testing and writing scripts so forgive my error.

I always liked the battle between the san mona thugs and my small team as well as the hicks battle with just one guy hiding in the shed where the weapons are stored.

In UC there is one sector (the sector # escapes me at present) that just plain freaking rocks where yo are seriously outnumbered by civvies and enemies but they have to come down a natural corridor made up aof a fence and a building to get to you. Once you survive that onslaught you get to move forward and do it all again.

The Claudia sector was one of the best for me so far in UC, since if you do it early you have only SMGs and a couple of rifles and it's all open with no cover.

I remember reloading one turn a dozen times to try different tactics, trying to keep the game's Rude Dog alive.

But yes, Hicks and San Mona in the original JA2 were two of the best battles.

I think the sector that I was referring to is on the island in the SE of the map.

REEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAALLLY freaking tough to survive. Of course I play the game solo with just Rudedog doing what he does best, killing the enemy, and my IMP hauling shit back and forth to the home base.
