Combat Saves? What are Combat Saves?
As far as I recall, the Alt-A shortcut should work only on the load screen. So, Ctrl-L to open the load screen, and then Alt-A.
In case this doesn't work, you can manually copy the save.97 (I think 97, probably mistaken though) and rename it to save.05 (or any other number). This will allow you to load it like any other save.
