On the original topic of weapons that disappoint...

Machine guns. The ability to perform an aimed burst or aimed autofire is amazing, but it means that a true machine gun with no ability to perform an aimed autofire is limited to just uselessly throwing lead downrange probably 8 times out of 10. Great for suppression, and not much else.

I think it might be time to replace my Minimi with an Ares Shrike on my primary squad machine gunner, basically. A 100 round C-mag is not such a huge liability compared to a 200 round belt, and the attachments are pretty much the same. Also, with the new attachment system I can easily field several such C-mags, limiting sudden ammunition shortage liabilities.

And yes, I'm noticing my sniper rifles seem remarkably less effective now. Rarely do I find a good setup where my increased aiming attempts result in an appropriate green crosshair, additionally. Some of that is of course my own difficulties with setting up a shot using spotters and such like... it's actually not the easiest thing to do, maneuvering two mercs such that the target stays within sight of each, AND is not taking cover in the heat of a battle.
