Why is it ok for the US Govt to spy on people around the world with a dark tech (prism) they wouldn't dare use on their own citizens? I'm getting tired of double standards in high places, not just in the States but everywhere. There an epidemic of substandard leadership globally. All spin and no substance. I curse all politicians without exception and for all eternity!

The culprits should be sent to prism... :scan:

Seriously? My 2 ct. in a nutshell: The attacks of 9/11 came without a warning; the U.S. and the agencies related to the executive were taken by surprise. Classically, defensive measures are taken against offensive action. 9/11 has shown that waiting for obervable action is too late to take defensive measures, and consequently no option. So what is currently tried is to make individual behavior predictable, and therefore to prevent action before it occurs. My reading of Pres. Obama's speech on May 23 was that he realized that this is a bit over the top, and that "legitimate targets" need to be defined narrowly. But I'm not so sure anymore. While Prism couldn't prevent Boston, I do not believe that the lesson learned is that Prism is a misguided approach, but rather, that it happened due to a lack of information. So I don't think that this is about double standards. I believe that the related agencies and other members of the executive who are responsible for the security of the U.S. regard what they do as necessary. The problem is the following: when can you be sure that the U.S. is secure, meaning that no threat of American people, or property, or interests exists?
