Ah, c'mon, are you serious? No, of course not; not for any reasonable value of "different Version".
(in the Archive in my sig there's a Version "the beginning", this might be backward compatible (or not, dunno), do you really want to try this?)

Edit:
AFAIK vanilla 1.12 will run in win 8 with help of the win8fix rowa linked. So probably UB as well.
Even certain versions of wildfire are said to work (but i doubt about Steam however).
So hopefully you don't need any 1.13 at all if you are interested in vanilla only/first.
