So you have 3 tricks: training, copying equipment and copying battles. I do the training but copying equipment is a bit much. You could simply use the JABBI cheats or some editor like JAPE for that.... As for the hicks, you can endlessly fight them *without* copying files, just exit the sector, then re-enter. Some of the hicks (7 I think) will have respawned. You don't even have to actually leave the sector; in the map view, leave but then immediately cancel the move.
Anyway, here are a few tricks that I do.
1) Sleep as much as possible. This applies to mercs on the move as well as mercs training or repairing. When moving, go to sleep just before the hour changes. As long as you do, you will recover as much energy as you would if you had slept the entire hour. So in most cases, you can move from one sector to another which takes 1:45. When you get there, go to sleep for 15 minutes until the hour changes. Then move to the next sector. When repairing or training, sleep all the time. This is for 2 reasons; your efficiency at training or repairing is a function of energy so staying at full energy is most efficient, also, if you wake up at the end of an hour, you do the same amount of work as if you were awake the whole hour. Therefore, there is no downside to sleeping all the time when assigned to training or repairing (or doctoring etc).
2) You can plant a landmine. If you subsequently re-enter the sector (or simply save and then reload the sector) you can then *detect* your own mine, thus placing a blue flag on the location of your mine. These flags *cannot* be removed by the enemy (unless they accidentally toss a grenade on them) and they cannot move through them. This means you can use them to channel the enemy. For instance, you can fix holes in fences or block doorways. In the Meduna garden sector, I sometimes dig up all the mines and replant them in such a way that incoming enemy troops have to zig-zag back and forth in front of my position. In Drassen, I sometimes place a box of land mines in front of the mine entrance. This traps the Crepitus if they attack and allows a single merc to pick them off at leisure.
3) I recently discovered this trick in WildFire so I'm not sure if it exists in regular JA2...You can sometimes find stuff in non-containers. In other words, you can find stuff in things that you don't normally open, like cash registers for instance. Hold the control button down to get the hand cursor. Run it over likely objects on the map. If it turns RED, there is something there. Go there and search to see what it is.
4) You can sell crepitus parts to Mickey and Bloodcat parts to Gabby as well as vice versa.
5) Kingpins mob will respawn like the hicks as long as some named characters like Madam or Frank remain alive.
