This is something I did a couple of times a long time ago...

When you first assault Tixa, bring a lot of rem.det. explosives if possible. When you've cleared the sector, plant them, pref. in smart spots, doorways or wherever you think enemy might be next time they take sector back... You've probably guessed this by now, when enemies take Tixa back, assault the sector and before you do anything, blow the explosives Very Happy , bombs don't disappear anywhere, they stay there for good (until you blow or disarm them). They should kill at least some enemies. Although not many of 'em may die in the blasts but still a lot of fun to watch the 'fireworks'. Repeat as many times as you want.

Now something I use all the time but not sure how many of you has figured this out...

This is about going around corners (damn I wish I could draw a picture...). Whenever I go around a building corner, I never 'hug' the wall, I stay 1 tile away from it. When I get in line with the corner I do a diagonal move towards it, meaning effectively my merc is facing the new area around the corner in 45 degree angle. At first I went around corners hugging the wall and when I crossed the corner spot, I got constantly interrupted and therefore merc being shot directly to the right or left side of him. Trust me, this way you get much less interrupted.

Example: Picture a square-shaped building, wall lenght, say, 10 tiles, merc being at southern-most point of SE wall, hugging the wall. At first he backs up 1 tile from the wall to SE thus making the needed distance to wall, he then moves 10 steps to NE. Now he's in the line with NE wall. At this point he takes 1 step NORTH, thus being right next to east corner tile of the building (building's eastern-most tile is now directly to west, right next to merc).

So why not do a simple side-step at the corner instead? Because this can be done CROUCHED (or prone for that matter), making you a slightly harder target when you get around the corner. You won't get closer to crouched side-step in JA2.

Another trick is if you go NE towards the corner but this time hugging the wall, when you get to the corner (but not yet around it), you back-up one step to SE (see previous example) and then take one step to north.
