This is what I did. Since my last post I just tested it again and the game works. I now have two working installs of UC.
1. install original JA2 (not in any Windows-Folder)
2. download modpack + Readme
I didn't work off of the modpack. I used SCI_UC-1.13_ v4.6 (10.05.2019)_on_JA2_v1.13_r8675_g2475
3. unzip downloaded modpack
4. copy the content of unzipped modpack
5. open original Ja2-instal, until you are where you see the exe
6. drag the copied content there
I skipped steps 3 -6. I copied the SCI into the folder with my JA2 basic and installed it there.
7. overwrite when asked
8. open ini-editor
9. choose matching vfs-config and ini-file (keyword is: matching) for mod of choice
Since I didn't use the modpack steps 8 and 9 weren't necessary.
10. play
