I'm near the end of the game and Barry is up there with explosives and mechanical in the 90's (plus he is a lockpicking expert). He goes around checking doors and chests, finds and disarms the traps all the time, then picks the locks. If there is an enemy behind the door he blasts them on burst or shoots them in the head (marksmanship up to be 98). Almost a one person army - too bad he gets tired so easily.
