Full Control, the new developer who took upon themselves to make a "true and real" TBS sequel to JA2, has decided to fund the game using Kickstarter. Here you go, JA fans, after watching dozens of awesome old games being brought to life on KS, it's our turn now.
Only downside of this is that while for example Elite 4 is being worked on by David Braben himself, our old friend Ian Currie is slacking off somewhere, chewing the fat at Turbine or God knows where he's at now. Come on, Ian, help these guys, they need you! We need you! You just can't drop a piece of classic masterwork on the gaming scene then vanish... no, it has be to your curse all your life!
Anyway here's how the new game is doing on KS. If you got the spare change, go help them out.

I like the idea of the base being a bridgehead that has to be kept and can be moved as well as adding fortifications etc. to "frontline" sectors.
Also seizing airfields, harbours etc. in order to get access to remote areas, secure supply routes, move into enemy's rear, (maybe even enable para drops and/or air support?) was something i'd like to add to the strategic level of the game.
About destructible environment: Though I also think you shouldn't be able to destroy everything (it's not about a big war with lots of heavy weapons, it's no e.g. company of heroes ...), I'd quite like if you were able to chop some trees with a mortar and such.
And hitting buildings with heavy weapons should result in (optical) destruction of parts of building (without destroying roof completely, I agree) - but also in a loss of loyalty, resources, money or whatever to teach you not to neglect civilians' need ...
I'd also like to see Heavy MGs stationed in sectors or mounted on usable trucks or so that can be manned and used (by and against you) once conquered in working condition ...

I think this is the first Kickstarter that actually explains to the backers ( and to those that are interested ) how and where the money is going and what it actually means holding a license.
A nice update all in all.

With a small team and small budget, JA 1.13 is impossible to get close to, but if you can outsource some of the work to fans, I would assume you could include more stuff in the game than you could on your own.
Yeah, 1.13 is a beast, that has been in the making for along time now. There is no way it could be remade withing a reasonable time-frame, by a 12 man squad.
The full implementation of 1.13 is something for the post release.
