i always carry a couple of c4 with a remote detonator around, the only occasion i use c4 is to blow up walls and surprise enemies. does anyone have any tips for me for how to use explosives offensively? ok ive used them for ambushes during the big counterattack in drassen in 1.13.
still, does anyone have any experience with explosives and can add anything to this?

I only have experience with fire-crackers ...

- pressing the End-key shows the line-of-sight overlay.
(there were keys to change size of this overlay ?dunno +/- perhaps z/x)
simplified - enemies will 'always' try to move to a red-part, out of sight.
'Where' that part is, depends on where your mercs are - looking at.

- throwing a smoke grenade results in enemies bunching-up in the smoke-cloud.
(or inside the red-part, out of sight)
This might work to lure several of them to where your bomb is.
... and might not: a normal grenade will set of an explosive (no detonator needed)
I dunno if the smoke-grenade won't have the same effect.

If you have mercs resting in a sector about to be attacked it's often good to place bombs next to the obvious cover points, places that bottleneck them like gates and also round the edges of maps. That way you can simply wait for them to go for cover and fire them off into the sunset.

A cheap trick if you know which way they are coming is to put a string of mines from their own mine fields in SAM sites in a line across their entry point. If placed close enough they will set off a huge explosion that literally wipes out the attacking force before they even set foot outside their entry zone. Another aspect of this is for places like SAM sites, if you notice the AI usually groups your militia near the entry gates which means they get murdered enmasse and then the bad guys all steam through as the miltia usually survive long enough to let the assault team group up just outside the gate. Pop a bomb down where your militia mass and when they get overrun you have a tidy little backup plan to further weaken the assaulting team. Works really well against hardcore enemies so you have less to fight.
