Is it possible to have both Urban Chaos and JA2 v 1.13 installed on my PC so that I can switch between the two when it suits me?

I'd rather run this by people first before trying it in case it all goes wrong and I lose my saved game files for UC (And all that hard work on expert lvl!!).

 Yes. Just make installs of JA2 into different directories and go from there. I have 6 or 10 or 15 (I've lost count) different installs.
