As the last person in the known universe to find out about JA, I purchased and downloaded it yesterday. I will be installing the 1.13 mod today, but played it vanilla for a while last night to get a feel for it.
? One thing that seems odd is that when moving from where I landed and met the Rebels to Drassen, I only seem able to move East into the next Sector. I can't seem to move into a Sector to the South. I had wanted to enter the middle section of Drassen and avoid the Air Base expecting it to be heavily guarded. I was forced into the Air Base sector because I could not move to the South. Is this normal? If not, does v1.13 fix it. I find it very odd.
? My guys are all bandaged, though shot up, and walking around bent over. As it is now night time, can I send them off to sleep it off? If so, how?
Looks like a great game and only made better by an active modding community. Funny how those tend to be my favorites.

Restarted with v1.13 so haven't gotten there again yet. But, yes it was happening on the Tac Screen.
Notice since I changed to v1.13 I can't seem to group my mercs. Used to be able to draw a box around them with the left mouse button down. Any idea how to 'box' them? So I can move them as groups. Hmm, my error I think - seems I can group them when they are not in a combat situation, right?
Also, is there a way to rearrange the order of the mercs, portraits, once you get started?
Also, I can get my guys to run, R; but how do I get them back to walk. Must be missing something, but I have looked.
And since I'm asking stuff; we kill a guy that has been shooting at us, but when I check him out he as no gun and no ammo?????
After restarting twice, I figure that the reason my character looks like the green hulk is because I gave him the camo skill.

When leaving the sector on the tactical screen, you have to be very near the edge of the sector to leave it in that direction. If you want to go south, first move to the southern edge of the sector. Most of the time, it's better to move on the map screen.

Yes, I think that only works in real-time mode (not in turn-based combat mode).

I don't think so.

Use S (for stand) to return them to walking mode.

They don't always drop things, but I think 1.13 has an option somewhere to change that if you want.

Yeah, he'll always be dark if he's camo'd.
In my opinion, it's not a good idea to be playing 1.13 until you're tired of "vanilla" JA2 or at least until you have learned the game well.

Why? Although, as a total newbie I'm only just barely scratching the surface of the possibilities, I really like the better resolution and the ability to play in a window is great. What is the negative?
As I said, it's only my opinion, but I think "vanilla" JA2 can be very enjoyable for a long time. However, I doubt that you would appreciate it if you tried it after 1.13. So ultimately, you could be diminishing the amount of time that the game holds your interest.
I think the learning curve is sufficiently difficult for a new player (unless you enjoy using reloading from saved games as a tactic) without adding the complexities (and new bugs) of 1.13.

Thanks for the ideas guys, but having spent @ 12 hours yesterday fiddling with v1.13 and all the editor goodies available; I have to say that for me v1.13 is far more interesting for this gamer. I know myself well enough to know that being forced to go into battle in shorts, flip-flops and a plinking pistol would have had a good chance of driving me off before I had a chance to see the depth of the game. But wait! The depth of the game was largely added by the modding community.
Now I can be sure all my guys go in country with appropriate web gear and a reasonable basic load of weapons and gear. True, I now have the ability to go hog wild with highend uber-tech toys; and that might be somewhat fun to try. However, deploying my guys reasonably equipped makes this game hugely more interesting. One idea I'm playing with is to deploy and play with only 1960/70's era weapons, which would be more difficult or impossible without v1.13's editors. And just to keep things honest, I have to pay for whatever gear I assign the merc via the XML editor.
Also, the various editors available make it possible to set up all kinds of interesting approaches. Right now, mostly to become familiar with the way the game mechanisms work, I have a two man scout/sniper team in country in ghilly suits running a pre-mission recon. To my surprise, they have been able to make some progress toward fulfilling the mission, which was not my original intent. The old M40A1 is a one-shot killa! So currently I'm planning to wait to hire more mercs until I need them. This kind of free form action would be impossible just playing the vanilla game, which I'm sure would also be somewhat fun, but not nearly as engrossing as is possible with the 'sand box' possibilities v1.13 makes possible. Or so it is for me.
