Like I said in another thread, this is one of, if not the best game I've played in 20 years.

As a remake of the original, I think they pretty much nailed it. In my opinion it's the best remake of a classic that I've ever played.

Graphics are Great!

Gameplay is fantastic! It definetly reminds me of the old game, where they basically brought nearly everything back, better than before. I really like their version of turn based gaming. Probably the best turn based game I've seen.

Fear Factor is still there, from trying to keep council members happy, to trying to keep your favorite soldiers alive.

Haven't played it on Easy.
On normal, for me it was a hard game, dashing can and will get you killed. I usually ran (once I was able to field a full team) with 2 snipers, one heavy, one assault and 2 support. Both supports had one medkit(3 heals, revives) and still had problems keeping the team and each other healed. I'll probaly double their medkits next playthrough. Panic attacks were rare, usually happening with rookies and squaddies.

I've just started playing classic. It's a bitch! Smile Ironman was too much for me so I started over. I still need to work on my strategy. But, even with saves, I found it easier to start with the tutorial, to get me a cple of ranked soldiers to help me get through the 1st cple of fights and bring home 4 live but battered soldiers. Smile

Even on norm, this is a game that keeps you thinking all the way through to the end.

And it's definetly replayable!!! Even getting my ass handed to me on classic, I kept plugging away, restarting the game, changing my strategy and nervously looking forward to the next fight! Smile

As a turn-based strategy game ... hell as just a freaking game, this is the one game I can highly recommend to anyone who likes a great game!!

Could it use some tweaking? yes

Is it perfect? of course not

But it's damn close to being everything I could want in a game without changing a thing and without patches at all. Which I don't think I've ever encountered in a game before. Smile

I'll be looking forward to new DLC and xpansions in the future.

I can easily see me playing this game 10 years from now and bitching about why noone else is making games like it. Razz

Forgot to mention: On classic, panic attacks happen much more often and in one battle I had what could only be called a chain of panic attacks that wiped my entire team. I've seen complaints about this on the xcom website. Don't know if it's intentional or a bug.

Yes, panic attacks are brutal on classic. Don't think I've even seen any on normal. Usually someone is injured, panics, then if no aliens are in sight either shoots their own teammate or causes the panic to spread to adjacent soldiers. It can be kind of funny watching a couple soldiers panicking and shooting at their squad while the others are shooting back with reaction fire. Classic is completely unforgiving of mistakes and even if you don't make any mistakes you can still get toasted. The cover system only allows the player maybe a turn or two at best of camping. The aliens are all snipers and can pick you off behind full cover or destroy your cover leaving you naked to the world. The aliens, on the other hand, love to camp and await your blunders. Some people think it's unfair, but I think it challenges you. I'm using tactics on classic I never would have bothered with on normal. Stick and move and flank!

I can't last the 2nd month on Impossible/im, I keep wiping or losing all my funds and aliens just pwning me.
It took me like 13 tries just to get out of the 1st month restarting and what not.
I basically walk around like an overwatch crowd, it got so bad I wanted to get macros for "All overwatch"
There is a mod out already called Rebalance, it removes that panic causing them to shoot your own members. It also changes many aspects of the game, enemies have more health being one of them, so no more one shot kills on thin men.
Also ya know how you only get 1 inventory slot? With this mod you can get two Smile
but someone on the x-comnexus forum has been asking and trying to get ppl together to change the inventory all together. I wish they would add gun attachments as that was one of my favorite things in JA2
