Hello,

this is a minor request. I would like to see a hotkey which draws the sidearm from the holster and puts the main gun in the secondary hand of the merc.
At the moment it is already possible to swap the weapons between sling and primary hand. If it would be easier to draw the sidearm, it would be more comfortable to use them in the game and therefore they would see more use.
I'm afraid this is rather complicated to implement, because at the moment You can have up to three holsters (vest, left and right leg). Therefore it would require the code to identify if there is a holster with a sidearm and if there are more than one holster, it had to identify the primary one.

A mod like e.g. AIMNAS may even have a holster in combatpack/hip.

It's actually a rather trivial task to loop the inventory and find the first one handed weapon. The hard part is coming up with a new hotkey since we are running low on those.

Last I checked, CTRL-ALT-F27 is still free.

More seriously, wouldn't drawing the "first" one-handed weapon be potentially confusing if the character has multiple holsters? Some of the smaller handguns will fit in regular pockets, at least in some mods. Also, what would happen if the weapon already in-hand is too big for the sling slot, or if the sling slot is full?

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, it's just more complex than it looks.

One handed weapons -per definition- only occupy one hand, so you can hold the rifle in the other hand. As for different holsters: The order of pockets is static, you'll just have to figure out where to keep your sidearm so it gets chosen over the 'oh sh*t' backup pocket pistol you stashed in your boot.

Oh, I didn't realize that you could fire a pistol while holding a rifle in the off-hand slot, I thought you could only do things like apply first aid or throw grenades. All right then, it should work nicely.

This should be possible... however, the biggest problem is to find an easy shortcut. We are currently even running out of 3-key combos.

You can, and showing how much JA2 devs thought about details, you get a penalty on aiming if you can't use your other hand for a proper two handed grip.

Flug:
Had a quick look, [SHIFT] + [CTRL] + [k] seems to be free and would be the natural companion to the existing sling swap.

I guess, it is also possible to check whether a one handed weapon is stored in a holster (Pistol/MP) or in some different storage pocket and it should only be possible to draw sidearms from holsters.
Here is a detailed step by step image how the German Bundeswehr trains the transition from the rifle to the pistol.

No it isn't. All pockets are created equal^^ Also, you mustn't only see the lonely holster in 1.13. AIMNAS has leg holsters, belt holters (which replace the combat pack), vests with integrated holsters, concealed shoulder holsters that are worn in place of a vest and finally a MOLLE compliant holster that can literally enable any pocket on the vest, leg or combat pack spots. And all of them are distinguished solely by accepting a certain range of item sizes. The only thing that is safe to discard is the backpack.

Ok, i thought it would be possible to check the from the Pockets.xml, but I haven't played any mods yet. With only two holsters in the Pockets.xml of Vanilla 1.13 it seemed to be feasible. At the moment I can't commit myself to the JA 2 1.13 project, so I can only make feature requests and hope for positive replies.
It the future gives me more time, I will be happy to contribute to the project. There are other possible features and simple Item.xml mods I have in my mind.

You could flag holsters, but taking the first pistol from potentially eight holsters isn't much different than taking the first pistol you find anywhere - so why bother.

BTW isn't the TT pistol vest also a stock 1.13 item (and IIRC offering a pistol holster as well)?
