So, I've begun my assault on Meduna. I'm currently in N5, the Arena - the outer walls are saturated in mine/stun grenade traps. I want to get one of my mercs up close to blow a hole in the wall, but every time I defuse the mines, enemies jump down from the roof and initiate combat. I'm using Scully to defuse the mines, and he's sneaking. I've also tried using C4 to detonate them, but they only destroy the flags, the mines remain in place. I'm not sure if it's the act of defusing the mines or dropping them on the ground that alerts the enemy, but I've not found a successful way to do it sneakily.

Which version of JA1.13 are you using? In the current development versions it is possible to blow up pre-placed mines with grenades and other explosives.

The version released August last year, not sure what the build number is. They definitely don't react to grenades, LAW rockets or C4. I think I'm just gonna go for the frontal assault anyway, the lobby of the building seems to be unoccupied at night.
