Have you tried running it with dosbox? It should take about 15 minutes to download and setup.

i tried and it constantly say you have to have ITEMDESC.EDT installed.
besides, Extract Item Descriptions.bat don't work in DOSBOX.
i'm trying VirtualBOX with 32bit XP now

VirtualBox have same error with DOSBOX.
i tried to recode "ja2wedit.exe" and "ja2patch.exe" with VC6, atfer fix an error in C+ it worked!
i think it should also work with DOSBOX+VC6.
