I was just wondering something. I just captured the central SAM Site near Cambria. It's Day 14 on Experienced. From my enemies (several elites) I came across 2 C-7s with laser scopes, a G41, a FN-FAL, a Colt Commando, AKSU-74, etc. Am I just lucky or does this always happen after you fight elites?

I beleive the placed elites are well equipped, and the random ones, well that's luck of the draw.

I mean if you want, you can go straight after Meduna and if you live, you'll pick up some nice gear in the early game.

I usually go straight after Drassen and the SAM site, then straight down to M9 I think, the random weapons cache and pray to pick up a P90 bright and early.

That gives me a great weapon and some NV goggles for my IMP. Then it's off to Cambria SAM and I usually pick up some decent gear there as well.

How do you survive against all those tanks and elites wearing UV goggles while you yourself only have a MP5?

I usually follow 'normal' game procedures and take Drassen within 1 day (usually the afternoon). Then I go to Cambria on day 2. Then to Chitzena as quickly as possible. I hire cheap trainers from MERC/AIM for militia.
Getting 3 mines running fast means I can get expensive (level 3 and up) mercs without having to worry much about expenses. On experienced night battles are fairly easy even with cheap newbies like Barry, Igor and MD. Also saves you a lot of money early on for not buying pros like Wolf and Ice.

But I would like some tips how to survive Meduna with only a MP5. Smile

My usual routine in JA2 any other than 1.13 is to take in the first night Drassen and it's SAM site, find the pilot and with go in the next afternoon to the warehouses sector in Alma with 3-4 mercs. If it's around 1 p.m. you can find there two rooftop elites equiped with sniper rifles with laser sight and sniper scope and UV goggles. At least one of them will drop all it's gear, from the second one you will have to steal the weapon. This will give you some good weapons for day 2. And if you want more spectra armour and good weapons, hit at night the military academy sector, than come back and clean the warehouses sector too.

I was giving a point of reference, even on day One, the enemies in Meduna are heavily armed and you *could* get some really nice gear if you survived. I've only tried it once and while I did end up with some nice gear, I did NOT leave the sector with it. I actually didn't leave the sector at all, died and had to reload, but not before I got some FN_FAL's, some spectra, etc...

This is what I actualy do. I take out Drassen, the NE SAM, then M9 if it's there, then Cambria SAM, Cambria Mine, then take Cambria while I'm waiting on new Mercs to join the fight. Send a few up to Chitzena, back down, regroup and take Alma. Then it's off to GRUMM, and then Meduna.

Really the only thing I change, is sometimes I head straight for the M9 weapons Cache, just to see if it's there, if I really want that P90, then I restart until it is there, take it, and then go back to my normal route.

Personally, when I place Novice I try to hit the N7 "Prison Base" as early as possible, since it's unmanned and has a truckload of LAWs and other goodies.

My preferred way is otherwise to ignore the rebels, pop down to San Mona for fighting and thieving, take the road down to Estoni (for a recruit), on to Dave's (for a car), back to Tixa (for more recruits and nice stuff), and then Alma Mine (for instant green loyalty). After that it depends on mood and the travel routes of enemy patrols & counter-attackers.

I usually take Drassen on the first night and establish militia there. Then I move out to San Mona Mines or whatever it's called and steal KingPin's money, just because I hate the guy. From there it's Chitzen. Once I own Chitzen I can hire some decent mercs, Stephen and Shadow are my usual picks and have everyone converge on Alma. Once I take the sector with the general in it and the rocket rifle, I get my first decent weapons (aka rifles). Shadow usually gets the rocket rifle.

Oh, and I hire that pompous guy that you find in the base. I can't remember his name. Lt. something...

Once Alma is bringing in the dough, I can get creative, I usually go after Kingpin at this point and take my sweet time savoring the death of his men and then finally the King himself.

I am different from that, although, I am too much of a wuss when it comes to gaming, I always have to have everything perfect, so I take all my sweet time! And I think if you get too good weapons at the start then it's too easy to take over everything and part of what I love of this game is always getting a better gun! So If you ahve a real good one at the beginning there isn't that much for me to WANT after... know what I mean? I guess it's jsut another way to play!

I'm with Kommandant. Usually I start the game by hiring Ivan and my IMP, and go through the whole campaign with just the two of them (not an Ira nor Dimitri in sight, hehe). So I try to militia-up all the cities as I take them, clear up patrols in my rear, explore sectors for more items, do all the quests, all that stuff.

So you guys played that way the first time you played the game? If so- wow...

I remember about 4-5 years ago on these forums it was a big thing to play the game "iron man" which meant to play it with one merc only (usually the IMP) and use people like Ira and MD for carting around supplies, training militia, and healing injuries.

HA! But I haven't played Iron Man yet, I'm getting to it though! and only in Novice mode, I just take too much time, But that is the fun to me! I usually have a 3 or 4 person team, but I only use the two others in last resort situations, either as medic or lock opener, fixer and the such, my IMP and the second I will have are the onyl ones to usually see battle (I get high stats REALLY fast!) But I think that sort of play is dangerous in Wildfire, Wildfire I love, the difficulty is set on a new standard I find!

That is what i like too. I am playing with the difficulty set on max. My custom merc is the first man and if i get stuck i use the others from the team as backup. My merc is always good at sneaking and killing by hand or knife and carries a silenced weapon and a automatic weapon for problem situations.
With UB i use a 6 person team with 2 mercs to sneak up and locate the enemy.

Hum Hum, sounds good! I need to play on higher difficulty though! And hum, does anyone know, if I play higher dificulties, will it take longer before i get a better weapon? Do ennemies shoot with better weapons? Or are they jsut more accurate?

I thought difficulty (regular JA2) had to do with the amount of money you start with, and that's it.

Less money, more enemies, tougher enemies, harder to get town loyalty up.

"Harder to get town loyalty up" is not true.Because there are more enemies both in towns and on patrols loyalty gets up a little bit faster.

Personally I find it harder to get town loyalty up in higher difficulties anyway, but since I haven't really done research then I don't know. But I believe that if enemies hadn't been more abundant, it would've been much harder, meaning I stand by what I said, pre-combined-calculation Wink

With more enemies the chances for your AIM-mercs to improve (and want more money) also increase...

About going straight for Meduna, when a mercs level goes up so goes the range-of-sight. (amongst other things -> check the ingame help)
I believe that the enemy soldiers are of a higher level as they game progresses.
