I was actually the one having trouble with the hostile civillians and it freezing. Thank you so much for seeing what the probable problem is. Now it's open season on wheelchaired civies :diabolical: .

Dr. Quack or Becoming X, if you have a spare moment some time would you mind looking into this. If you have no control over what civillians are generated (e.g. they are selected randomly) then this problem might be more complex. If you can select them then maybe it would be possible to remove them and replace them with another civillian.

Thanks in advance

I occasionally get dumped to the windows desktop. Typically it's in the middle of a firefight where the VC use either a molotov or a RPG round. I see the graphic and then poof....back to the desktop. Fortunately, reloading usually gets around this.

There was one time where the game FROZE while loading a sector. Reloading/rebooting did not help. I was able to resolve it by reloading a previous game, then reloading the save that was giving me trouble.

There is a small bug with ammo. Some of the RPKs have 100 rounds in the gun when you find them instead of 30. Also, ejected clips have 0 weight (unless you stack them).

Also, I brought Bullock back to An Loc Base but he doesn't seem to realize that he's home. Should I take him somewhere else? Like Tay Ninh?

Finally, I found Tex but could not recruit him. Now I can't find him anywhere. I recall from JA2:UB that you were supposed to give him a videotape that you could buy from Betty to encourage him to enlist, but she doesn't seem to have it. Is he supposed to be recruitable?

Overall, I like this mod very much. No disrespect to the creators of "Deidranna Lives", but I like SOG a lot better. The plot seems more *logical* and the story hangs together better. The choice we have to make between VC and US weapons is also a good element.

If I had one suggestion, I would say reduce the range of throwing knives. As it is, I get way too many kills at long range. Right now, it's better to use silenced pistols/SMGs at short range, but a knife is better at long range....

Oh yeah, I almost forgot....

If I put too much armour on my guy (over, say, 127%), the value goes negative. Is it really negative? ie. will it have *less* protection than 127%?

This happens with Coated VC armour+helmet+plates plus EOD pants or any other combination that leads to an armour value > 127.

Well, I searched this board and found answers to my questions on Armour and Bullock (should have searched first I guess....).

Here is another one though:
Everytime I go to the sector north of Tay Ninh containing the "helicopter to An Loc Base", I get a message saying that my squad noticed somebody, yet I never see anybody there. Is there really supposed to be somebody there? Or is it a bug?

Yeah, I had the same thing-took a full 3 squads in to sector and combed it thoroughly end to end-never found anyone. I assume it's a bug caused by UB "normally" placing an NPC there-though who that particular NPC is, I can't remember.

As for the wheelchair thing, I'm certain that the generation of civilians isn't random and that they are specifically placed. As far as I can work out from others' posts you can get around this using the map editor. Others reported a bug with Betty and the bloodcats (ie she gives you the bloodcat quest but there's no bloodcats to kill) and used the editor to place some of the big furry monsters in the sector. Dunno that it's really much use tho'-unlike UB, even after killing the bloodcats, what Betty has to seel you ain't worth s**t.

However, what you can do is use the editor to remove wheelchair civilians-thogh bare in mind this will only work if you remove them from a sector before you enter for the first time. So save before each new sector, then if you encounter the problem, use the editor to remove then just go back to that previous save game.

I agree with everyone who says SOG is better Mod the DL with the storyline and game play and the scenery, but DL was load and play. I never had any trouble with crashes. What I find odd is that after getting Install right, I didn't have any problems that others were having.....untill recently. Never had a problem with saving games but ever so often it will lockup during a save or once in awhile it freezes up during a mercs speech which can suck the fun out of it for awhile, but the fun of the game over rides the frustration and its back at it Smile I do not mention this to criticize or to seek help with the problems I've described. I just find it odd! :whoknows:

Bane and Slayer,
Bane: "Everytime I go to the sector north of Tay Ninh containing the "helicopter to An Loc Base", I get a message saying that my squad noticed somebody, yet I never see anybody there. Is there really supposed to be somebody there? Or is it a bug?"
That is because to create such teleports, I would guess, sometimes requires that you alter an existing map. For example, I would guess that the previous version of the map before it was altered might have been where you could find Biggins, the old Brit in UB. Becomming X probably took him out, and replaced the mine entrance with the helicopter. This is a theory. Yeah, I combed the sector too, but figured, no big deal, just a glitch or remnant like the guard post comment by the custom merc when entering the sector where the guard post is usually located.
:scary:
Humans are bugs too.

Lord Dario,

Patches, when applied mid-game, will only change things that haven't happened yet. So, if you already have access to a weapon, or have said (or tried to say) certain things before patching, those errors won't fix. It's already part of your save game. When I installed Dr. Quack's patch, I assumed this would happen so I did a full install and started a new game. It could be that I was overzealous in my actions, but after dumping so much time in, I knew that if I had not started over and the game froze or crashed even later in the game, that's how much further I'd have to play from the beginning to catch up again. Just because you rebuild a Ford Pinto doesn't mean it's still not a lemon. Better to buy a new car.

@LordDario
As mentioned in my earlier post, I too have encountered that random speech bug. I assume you pathched after you installed. In that case Sidetrack's solution would be the prudent one. There is a alternitive work around that almost as annoying as the bug itself. You can save frequently. I know not much help :armsfolded: but its the road I took because of how far I was in the game, though for the life of me, I could have sworn I did apply all patches prior to installing (last thing I should ever do is rely on my memory) :confused: :confused: When i decide to play it again you better believe I'll take Sidetracks advice :rolleyes:

@Plop
I'm curious if you too patched in mid-game?

Yeah, I installed SOG'69 sometime ago. Took a break for a few months, and came back and saw the patches by the good Doctor.

I installed both patches and started a new game. First time through it locked up on the pilot :/

Second time through it locked up when my IMP shot an enemy and was going to say a comment, same for the third.

So, I am going to do a complete reinstall of UB, the UB patch, SOG'69 and the sog69 patches, in that order, and see if it works out for me.

I just did new instalation of UB from new "Gold" edition. First, the "new" UB never finished the install. I did dig up the old stand alone version of UB and this one did work w/o problems. Then patched UB, and installed the Vietnam mod with the patches. Didn't have even one crash since (on XPpro). Just getting hit by 20 enemies every time I'm trying to heal my team. Ihave to get more those Rat packs to be able to move to other sector. Damm, this one is hard. :help:

Yeah, but fun!! Well, that tells me that I must have patched during mid-game if yours is ok. I got XP too.

@LordDario
Good luck with your re-install and if I don't hear from you on this subject then I'll know it worked :ok:

The reinstall worked well. I have had a couple freezes while passing time on the tactical screen. Not during any speech, just random freezes that require a ctr-alt-del. Other than that everything is great :rulez:

@Lord Dario,
just check all yours drivers for newest version. I did have a lot of problems with older drivers for GForce3. Had to switch them around till 99% of games worked. At cnet.com you can download small program and then it will check ALL your software and drivers for updates with the links.

@slayer
I agree, I have a blast. Bleeding, almost dead all the time, but FUN!

Can you give me the name of the little driver update prog? It sounds great. Ive been looking for something like this for sometime.

I went to Cnet and searched for it but couldnt find one that searched all your software, only specific card utilities.

Thanks if you can help.

I went to cnet and found out their Catch-up service is stoped untill futher notice or something like that. Sorry for the bad news. I was just ready to go there by myself, to check my computer. Maybe somebody is doing the same, but I really don't know. Have to search again for something, the Cnet one was great. They offering now some E-mail notification, not the same. You will find more if you input Catch-up to the search bar on the Cnet.

Thanks for your time Jan. I'll look around as well and let you know if I find something. I have downloaded the radeon driver update utility for now to at least check on my video drivers.

Thanks again to everyone for the responses.

By the way, this mod is AMAZING fun. The new characters are very well done. Taylor and Ruiz are AWESOME!! I love these guys!, And spooky is great (except that he cant stand shadow argh!).

The new guns are interesting and the weapons mod makes it VERY challenging. Limited access to items is a perfect way to increase the challenge as well ... you find few silencers, good guns, etc. I think its very well balanced.

Thanks to X for this great fun mod! I cant imagine how much work this took to complete.

Hmmmm... I just downloaded the mod and the two patches last week and installed everything in the specified order before ever even playing the mod, and I'm having many of the problems people mention here. Crashed 8 times in the sector with Trang... once when his audio went into and endless loop like others have said... which requires me to physically TURN OFF my computer because I can't even get back to windows. The other times have been when I try and leave the sector, crashes to desktop with no error message. I am playing Iron Man mode and there's an invisible enemy in the sector(searhed every building and every bus, no enemy, just a red dot on map and can't save) so I'm pretty much screwed. I'm kinda frustrated - this seems like a great mod so far but a lot of people are mentioning the same bugs that are biting me and teh answer seems to be re-install everything and pray.

I'm not gonna do that. The game is too damn easy except in Ironman mode (I've seen people in this forum criticise others for "cheating" when they mod weapons, then advocate saving the game between every turn as a valid "tactic" Razz )and this kind of crash bug is WAY too annoying after spending 2 hours clearing a sector with no saves to reload.

BTW, if JA2 and UB ran fine on your system but the mod doesn't, it's VERY unlikely that changing your drivers will help anything.
