Let's discuss, if we want to have more physical screen resolutions!

Pro:
+ My own Laptop has a 1280x800 native res. Streched 800x600 looks blurred, aiming circles are eggs - while native resolution could look very sharp and clear.

Con:
- WF with 1024x768 causes eye- and headache to me.
- Adding one more res would result in a lot of extra work
- selecting items in > 800 is not easy
- real Window mode will be available soon

Your opinion?

I already have real window (desktop) mode. I ported ja to SDL library (www.libsdl.org).

Looks like you need 640x480 with double pixel sizes.
Or 800x600 windowed at least.

Will window mode satisfy you?

When I started to include the new resolutions into 1.13 I also wanted to have a 1280x800 resolution. So I tried out 1280x800 and also higher resolutions in the source code, but the game always crashed deep in the graphic engine. I don't know what causes the problem...
So I stayed with the 1024x768 as the maximum working highest screen resolution in 1.13.

@Lesh,

I already thought about it. But double pixel size is to big in Y-direction for my Laptop.
The reason for my question was not only for me. I we get a large response for one common 4th resolution, we could think about doing it.

For my own comfort, I built a JA2 with runtime setting for window mode (new JA2.INI param instead of -D WINDOWED_MODE).

Is the quad pixel thing commited back to svn? I could imagine to add it as a generic additional relolution.

@RoWa21,

I'm shure, we bought the wrong type of laptop computers :whoknows:.
1280x920 native resolution plus that quad-pix-thing would have been a better choice :computer2:.
But my wife has blocked dell website for the next 3 years Crying or Very Sad

@Sergeant Kolja,

There is no ready quad-pixel solution. It was only proposal.

@Rowa21,

I saw a binding of clipping rect inside SGP. Max dimension was 1024x768. Maybe this is a problem.

Actually the only problem in my experimental build is the mouse border handling. In full screen, hitting the screen border results in scrolling the tac map into that direction. In window mode, we have somehow to simulate this.

Currently no idea, how... :confused:

1. There are arrows on keyboard to scroll map.
2. In my windowed version I had no problem with the scrolling from mouse, except proper placement of pointer near the border.

Hail Lesh 2!

Yo. But then I have to learn again using these keys Very Happy

Did You changed anything for achieving this? And if, what?
I use a recent 72X based build and on my Laptop (Touchpad instead of mice) the border-hitting-scroll does not work. At least not at the right and the lower borders. But I'll check this on the desktop machines, soon.

I also have no problems scrolling in Window (Debug) Mode. Everything works fine.

Mouse or Touchpad?
These days I will 'refuel' my desktop machine and test it with a real mouse again.

Nothing was changed. Mmm... except I added a frame to window.

@lynxnyl:
Sorry for confusing you... ja2 v1.13 is ported to SDL by me. Currently there is no directX-stuff left in project. But there are many windows-specific stuff still in sources along with the video blitters, written in asm.

What is wrong with the resolution. I don't even play it in 1024x768. Rather in 800x600.
