I just tried to use SV's many mercs 005 exe and ini but it still won't run so I will try to contact him when he comes on line and ask him what to do.

what won't run? the xml editor or SV's exe?

of course the editor won't make a difference if you have SV's exe. But try using SV's exe and ja2options.ini with this patched RR, it *should* be possible to run the game with the many mercs exe's.

Well I finally succeed! I started from scratch and created a complete new install and everything works. yes, everything. here are some important notes to pass on to others.

1. in order for this patch to work you must start with a new installation because the XMls are not compatable for very long. todays xmls will not necessarily be usable a month from now. note: I kept wondering why I was seeing old bugs from last year when I was playing today and then it hit me that they involved old outdated xmls and that got me to wondering if the old xmls were causing my xml editor problem and they were.

2. A small bug in the xml editor right now that is easily fixed is; the data-renegade tilesets folder is incomplete. what I did was copy over the tilesets data from data-1.13 and the xml editor fired right up.

3. the map editor (I can hardly believe it actually works) displays A9 vanilla not A9RR.

4. SpaceVikings 005 many mercs exe also runs. I think I'm in heaven.

So I'm off to start a new game ta!

as the moderator, i should delete the identical postings, but screw it, this part of the forum certainly isn't where we overload the post counts Very Happy

anyway oldnoob, can you spell out to me more exactly point 1 and 2?

point 1: the patch should contain all necessary xml's. Which ones of them were outdated?

point 2: do you have a specific error message? lockie reported smp2items to be missing and i added it to the patch. what else was reported missing?

copying the tileset/0 stuff from 1.13 to RR might cause some weird looking small items.

well, for the map editor to work, you can try the following: copy-paste the folder "data-renegade/maps" from "data-renegade" to "data". See the map editor is a bit of a screwjob. in the past it did load from custom data location but apparently not anymore

beware, doing so will make the RR maps default, so if you want to revert to normal maps, you'll have to rename or delete that folder i just mentioned.

have fun! hope you like after all that hassle.

why would you want to install 'other maps' to a test situation ? Of course when modding new stuff yourself , but existing new maps ? Maybe I'm misunderstanding (probably Very Happy ).

these aren't other maps. his map editor seems to load vanilla maps, not RR maps

my assumption is, it loads the map not from custom data location (RR) but from /data

so if he wants to try editing the RR maps (why not, we wanted to support the xml editor, but that's not worth shit without the map editor, so...) placing them into the /data folder might help.

However, being happy that things work the way they do, oldnooob probably doesn't want to change things any further Very Happy

at least i wouldn't if i were in his situation of multiple installation attempts but not everyone is a coward as i am Smile

please delete the multiple posts. I use a public network and this particular one is screwed up.

point 1. 8 month old install = 8 month old XMLS that are not compatable with current patches. to be more clear I believe I am speaking about 1.13 xmls not RR xmls. hey i don't know what I'm talking about. but there has been a lot of talk lately about incompatable xmls and that led to my conclusion.

point 2. "editor cannot load missing data-renegade\tilesets\0\smguns.sti" patches were installed in the order received 1,2,3, the xml editor told me where to look. the tileset folder only contained one file. data-1.13 tileset folder had four files so I just copyed over the other three. if thats not correct please tell me what to do.

I have copyed maps as you suggest sucessfully in the past and I will do that today.

And yes, I am on the nite shift haha I live on the washington and oregon coast in a travel trailer and I stay in "rv" parks within sight of the pacific ocean which put us on the other side of the world from each other.

you may send me emails because i can delete more than one email at a time in case emails duplicate themselves as well Very Happy

as for the rr/tilesets/0 thing only containing one single file, this looks very wrong. After the patch is installed, there should be 8 files.

but the 4 you copied from 1.13 will do the trick as well, as the other 4 files are more cosmetic than anything else. so all clear for now, there were some iles mssing in your RR install, things like that happen.

Hi Scorpion.

I don't know where to post it, so move my post if necessary

I found some bugs in XML files - all quick fixes. The one is related to the helmet and face items. In CompatibleFaceItems.xml entries with 0 (zero) must be deleted! Otherwise you will have problems to define compatible wearable face items for example sun googles and extended ears. XML Editor can't delete "zero entries". Also walkman should be FACE item not MISCELLANEOUS I think.

And loadscreens is missing RR_Nighttown2.sti

Bobby Ray don't sell a lot of items - is it a purpose. For example he is almost useless to buy LBE items. He also don't sell lot of armours

I found that combining Compound-18 with Twaron armour(helmet, vest and pants) will result in LBE items. Spectra turns to be treated or coated spectra - I'm not sure

To make a helmet capable of carrying NVG for example, just check attachment attribute in NVG and in items lines type "a helmet". Clear?

Scorpion, some LBE vests aren't recognized as vests but as a thigh packs. Can you look at them and correct them?

omg that peice of trash called xml editor shuffles the indexes around on its own. O man is that a fucking peice of crap. No wonder we get those stupid mismatches. it annoys the crap out of me.

i'll upload another patch in the hope that running the xml editor won't fuck it up again Smile and you can use it savely.

please report any other issues in enough detail so i can fix it. Then there'll soon be no more support for the xml editor. Sorry, i do have some minimal standards at which i want to work and the xml editor is inacceptable in its current state.

i also deleted a bunch of wrong merges. I can't understand how the added dozens if not hundreds of retarded pointless merges into those files. *shudder*

okay. compatible face items was hardly ever touched by me. I think i have it fixed now though, let's do the test...

Don't know if this is general or specific to RR-NIV:

Sectors D14 and D15 have positioning problems on rooftops. D14: Soldierds dying on their feet, this happened neer the middle of the bulding but on the south ledge.

D15: Merc standing but the moving curser shows them in a crawl posotion. This happened in the middle and east part of the roof on the south ledge.

Thanks for the hint SpaceViking. the ja2 map editor, when it works, displays in an excel type format which is clear and easy to use. At times when I have tried to view xml files they display in another format that I do not understand and apparently require knowledge and additional information to be used.

An example of this is when Last month I was having a problem and star was offering help by telling me to lookup and verify a certain xml. man, I went around in circles for days trying to follow his suggestions. It all just looked ""greek" to me.

I have the microsoft xml viewer program, and my default is open office. I have also used notepad or word pad I can't remember) as well. and maybe others.

I am having a lot more success lately with Scorpion's help. the jsd file for example. But I hope someone will find a way to stabilize and even separate the xml editor so it will not be so sensitive to updates and other changes but simply absorb them and integrate them. I'm probably not making sense now.

Death roof glitches:

Yes shooting them ot hitting them works on roofs, but not on balconies in RR.
In fact, if they die on their feet on a balcony, it is impossible to hit them again from the ground, with bullets, knives or fists. In order to end play in the sector you need a cheat.

This happened to me in Suchmi (BTW is the "ch" pronounced as "SH" or the more dangereous "K" there?) Smile anyways, that would be B3 (I think) the building south-east. Balcony facing east. If the soldier is "dying" but doesn't fall, you can't target him again or reach him AFAIK...

Still, a very interesting mod.

I'm sure Scorpion will follow with better directions but in the meantime you might look in the ja2 main folder and change the INI setting to data-renegade (save). then one thing that I do is to move the data-renegade folder from the rr folder to the ja2 folder. then run the game from the 2124exe in the ja2 folder.

Ok, renegade republic "vanilla" runs with b17 or b24.5. renegade republic NIV runs with 2124exe. If you don't have 2124 then you did not install correctly.

Lets review; load in this order, ja2, 1.13. at this point i would suggest start the game to make sure of good install. then install renegade republic, right click, unzip to c:\program files\strategy first\Jagged Alliance 2. Now open folder Jagged Alliance 2 and you should see at least two exes. one of which will be B17. start game with this EXE. If that is good then load any patches you may have . the order should be, addition1, faces, hotfix1, NIV patch. NOTE: these all expand to JA2 main directory.

I hope this is helpful.
