Akimbo Sawn-Offs *VS* Aximbo Super Shorties

It's been bugging me for some game-time now - which is the better setup for quick and messy close quarters shotgunning?
In this my glorious thread I will conduct some calculations regarding this particular issue. Let's hope my limited mathematical skills won't be too much of an obstacle.

Conditions:
Playing the latest 1.13.
Winner is the setup with the greatest damage output per time
All guns are loaded with Flechettes
All guns fitted with 2x small scopes, insight LAMs, Reflex sights
Sawn-Offs fitted with Duckbills (no effect with flechettes)
Super Shorties fitted with Barrel Extenders (Plus 10 tiles of range)

Gun Statistics:
Mostly equal - small, short range, single-handed, non-automatic 12 gauge shotguns; both fire for 23 APs
Major irrelevant difference: Super Shorties have greater range due to the Barrel Extender. Irrelevant due to close quarters scenario
Major relevant difference: Sawn-Offs have burst fire ability (26 APs, 2 shots at once, empties gun if used)
Major relevant difference: Super Shorties have 4 round capacity - Sawn-Offs hold 2 rounds
Major relevant difference: Super Shorties have to be pumped for 9 APs after each shot
Minor relevant difference: Sawn-Offs take 14 APs to reload, Super Shorties take 16 APs

The basic thought now following is that a Sawn-Off can be fired twice for 23 APs each, ergo 46 APs, then reload for 14 -> 60 APs used and ready for the next barrage. 60 APs for 2 shots, 120 APs for 4 shots.

The Super Shorty takes 23 APs to fire and 9 to pump the next round, making 32 per shot until the tube is empty. 128 APs plus 16 for reloading equals 144 APs for four shots with the next ones ready.

Therefore, the Super Shorty is inferior to the Sawn-Off; disregarding its greater potential range and the nifty advantage of the Sawn-Offs two-shell packages fitting more snugly into the inventory.

Bursting Sawn-Off *VS* Akimbo Sawn-Offs

Let's see about this one another time, laziness demands its time with me. I'll be having to research the penalties for dual-wielding to see how this goes, but I don't wanna right now.
Huh.

For an additonal 4 APs you can burst the Sawed-Off Shotgun, which also empties its magazine. The Sawed-Off Shotgun is slightly faster to shoot and also faster to reload, however it has a very small magazine with only two shots.

I feel if you only have a single enemy seven or less tiles away, you will be able to kill the guy with less APs with the Sawed-Off Shotgun.

If you have multiple enemies to take out, either gun uses too many APs to get you more than 2-3 kills per round before you are out of APs. The MP7A1 with AET, rod&spring, and a relfex sight will provide better results in such situations.

Actually, using a ISM-V-IR or whatever it's called instead of a reflex sight works even better.
But that's not what this thread is about! It's about shotguns! Because shotguns are cool!

Ah, I stand corrected, Nails needs a shotty, he, he! I can't wait for merc externalization and then a mod where certain mercs get bonuses with certain guns.

Oh my...shouldn't that then be included in the IMP process, too? I mean, it sounds complicated, sure, but...but but...it has to! :<

Not really. IMP's have their traits already. Some Mercs should have some characterising features above and beyond traits, for instance Nails with a shotty's gets a bonus for reloads or something. Just a minor touch, but it would characterise them a little more Smile

Is there any way to put back the interaction like in JA1/DG where you could cause fights between mercs?
