Btw, maybe we could translate this to English? I am sure a lot of folks would be very happy. I know nothing about dotnet, no idea if it's possible. I see Lalien (Little Alien) is very active on the russian AIM forums, maybe he could ask Pipex for the sources or some sort of English ini file.

Anyone from Team v1.13 in contact with him?

PS: Off_topic, do you have a "Modding Guide" thread? This dotNet editor also has a small brother, a STI editor, just as awesome, would be nice if people would know about them.

lalien apparently posted on AIM forums a tool that assembles animations. JA2_BRF_090414. I've downloaded it but it's full of scripts which left me clueless. It's an adaptation of a tool from his (?) SG1 mod. I have it if you want it.

I also have a tool made by Pipetz (you know the man already) which transforms STI->GIF and backwards. I haven't test it yet, but a guy on their forums remade basically 40% of the S_MERC animations so it must be good. At first view seems simple enough.

Here's what that STI->GIF can do. Animations are from the set remade by the Russians and it took about 10 seconds to export.

Ah and if you're wondering what's so different, the first to notice is that they added SLEEVES to the uniform.

And I couldn't resist since it works so fast and I converted back the animated GIFs to STI files. Worked perfectly, the STI had keyframes in the right place and all. So it seems we're into something here cause exporting Animated GIFs from any 3d proggie is a breeze...

I couldn't resist and gave the "dressed mercs" bodytypes a spin (the ones I got from the russians). Dunno about you, but it makes a world of difference to me.

I like the idea of sleeves. I always felt that having my "professional mercenaries" running around in wife beaters was a bit off the mark.

I think I like the idea of them looking like a vest is equipped is cool too. Maybe we can figure out a way to make the body colour change when a vest is equipped so everyone can enjoy their favourite cup of tea. Wink

This has been implemented in Night Ops, your "shirt" colour changes depending on what Armour you equip.

Nice work on the JSD. On the above tweaks to Anims two questions... are there similar for big merc & female merc? Does it effect all characters of that bodytype (e.g. enemies & combat bodied civs) or just the RPC's & Imp?

The above bodytypes were all I could find. The "real deal" would be, beside editing the bodytypes, looking into Night Ops code to check how they made the dinamic color changes. And taking that to a new level, either layered sprite, or different sets of animations. Something like "IF ghillie in chest slot - show S_merc_ghillie set".

To the best of my knowledge the S_MERC, M_MERC, F_MERC bodytypes are only shared by mercs and enemy soldiers, not by civs.

Hence "combat bodied civs" who must belong to a faction or they are not allowed by the editor. KP's goons for instance, the Hix, Tony & Hans. They all have Merc bodytypes too.

There are 2 separate things:

A) Make long sleevs or something that resembles armour
B) Make armour color change according to a predefined value (add "Color" value to vests?!)
C) Make standard "army issue" gear for enemies, colored.. lets say in red.

Now... you see the brilliance here? If you can determine the body color by equipping items all you need to make the game right is a right loadout for all enemies.

Of course all this needs extenalised loadouts, as discussed in another thread.

Trouble is that you can't see from far away that an enemy is wearing armour... (cf. dynamic tooltips).

So, if an enemy comes closer, is it only then that the actual color (of the armour) will appear?
Cause that's the way it's supposed to be... (in my opinion, of course)

Yep, trenches are easy. You just need a fence and a good tileset. The above example could've done with more "dirt" near the trench, it's an excavation afterall.

With VFS and the new editors creating such things will be a breeze.

Now all we need is a revamp of the tilesets and an editor for them.

Yes. All tiles in one directory would be a fantastic start. I know it would require a clever reverse compatibility routine and would be a lot of work but think of the possibilities of having every tile in the game available in any map you make.

It would make life a lot simpler.

If the dynamic tilesets can be implemented (multiple images per object/feature) then having monsoonal rain in a tropical sector would make things interesting too Smile

That would require some complex calculations and an altering of the angle of the raindrops! If we had overlays for tiles so a water splash occured then it would be possible, but difficult. Difficult mainly due to angled roofs and continuity. Could be worth a go though if someone has the patience to make water splashes on such a small scale...

If you shoot a gun in water doesn't it make splashes? Dunno at least in pools of water that STI can be used to create the illusion of rain.
