JA 2 won't save my game anymore[message #223686] Sat, 27 June 2009 08:53 Go to next message

Hi all, new here. I've got the original bought-it-at-the-store JA 2. It's worked fine all these years until recently. It won't save anymore. I had a game going and I saved it and everything seemed fine, but the next time I put in the disc, the "continue saved game" option wasn't available. I thought maybe something had gotten screwed up on my hard drive, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the game, but it's been doing the same thing. It'll even "lose" my saved game when I'm in the middle of playing it! After I've already saved once or twice, I'll finish an area and click on save, and all the slots will be empty.

Does anyone have a clue what's going on and if it's possible to fix this problem?

Thanks

Mel

As for the problem , well I'm no tech guy , so can't really help , but check in your folders for the save games and any crash reports , if you can post them here and some clever typa guy will have a look for you . :doctor:

The saved game should exist as a physical file in /SavedGames folder. If there's none, then you must be on Vista and the game couldn't write the file.

The problem with Vista is that it thinks /Program Files is a protected region and won't allow most programs to write/save there. Unless they say "Pheeealllaaasee with sugar on it", what JA2 never did.

The quick and dirty solution is to move the JA2 install dir to a non-system partition (if you have one) and make yourself a new shortcut to it. JA2 is a pretty sturdy game, you can move it around, it doesn't care much from where is run. And check if JA2 and SavedGame dirs aren't Read-Only.

And welcome to BP, we hope you'll enjoy your stay.
