Heya,

got a general question. I always wondered if there is any use in JA2 to avoid alarms in any sector (e.g. Tixa). So far I can't remember of any bad consequences if you just ignore it from the last times I played JA2 some while ago (maybe there migh even be changes with 1.13?)

I also remember that Alarms had a huge impact in JA1, where lots of Equipment was destroyed if you were not careful enough.

From what i've experienced, you can just ignore alarms. Just wear a gasmask or be outside when the alarm goes off Wink

Usually, the alarms I encounter just mess up my enemies. This has happened in the SAM site at I8 and Tixa. The enemies just forgot their gas masks, I guess.

At low level of alarms, you can sneak quietly behind enemies in real time. At high level, you cant. you just automatically enter combat once you see them. that's general situation.

You actually don't automatically enter combat mode in 1.13 if the enemy does not see you. But I believe they act first if you don't instigate combat before they see you.

Sneaking real-time is cool but it seems a to be on the beta stage... See if any character sees an enemy, the game will select that merc, deselecting everyone. This is a real pain in the ass if you have a larger squad. But single quiet merc can use this with good results. And yes, in 1.13 if the enemy is not aware that you're in the sector, the turn-based mode will not start.

Better create a thread about improving this

Sneak to their back in real time, stab them in the flesh. Now combat turn begin with you in full AP. Mind you, if you hit him with not enough force to stun him, he will react and discover you.

If you set most of sneak characters into one squad and the rest into another, then park them in some where safe you can eliminate that annoying feature. And dont forget that sneak character can use sniper rifles to scout out in advance where enemies are. set two of them in cross-fire position, aimed at the place you want to advance, then let your main sneak get in. this way your main sneak have it covered.

Sneak/steal in alarmed state is annoying and heart-stopping. I always try to get as many as possible and delay the alert til it's inevitable.

Also it is possible to empty Drassen with just one man. All you need is a stealthy merc, and a silenced weapon. I took out the first two without even enemy knowing I was there but a firefight occured at the mine-sector thanks to the reinforcments Deidranna sends in..

Stealth is probably the safest way to deal with enemies, even though it might not be the easiest

And the most profit to be had, as well. I finish Alma Mine with 400 items on the ground, insane-wise.

Although if you are a fan of iron man, or less reloads, stealth attack might well be just a hobby, not a main way of playing.

Yep, that throwing knife to the back of the head dealing -1 just might come at a very high cost! Or discovering three of your target's pals while going in for the kill with a blade Sad

But hey, back to the alarms: I'm pretty sure that any noise at all, even a super-duper silent one like a throwing knife-kill, sets of the alarm in Alma Gun Range. This is quite odd since in Tixa I've quietly dealt with 4 or 5 soldiers while sneaking in the back door and not setting off the alarm.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I know that I was never able to get to the Sergeant, but the game I was playing, I was loud as a stampede coming in. I think an enemy camps the alarm just because he's that nervous.

Thanks for the tip! Very Happy

By the way, why does the wall blow up during the alarm anyway?

The explosives used to destroy the test weapons are pretty powerful...

Yeah, now when I think about I seem to recall something about a rocket rifle(?) laying there and that's what's blowing up, taking the wall down as well.
