Good day, mates.

I'm playing a game of JA2... again. At 5 AM. And I've just discovered an interesting glitch / exploit with the help of which I can kill Kingpin and his guards without counterattacks. I originally wanted to fight, but since my melee attacks are way too weak, despite having set JA2_Options' Melee Damage to 100 - I still need about 500 whirlwind kicks and 600 hours of smashing an opponents' head to the floor before he dies - I used quicksave. I always want to kill all three fighters, which is hard due to limited APs, low overall damage and Darren ending the fight. Problem was, I saved after entering the fight and paying 5000$. When I quickloaded, I was in an awkward situation where nobody wanted to talk to me as if I was expected to fight. On entering the ring, nothing happened. So I went nuts and threw poop nades (mustard gas) towards the fighters. Everybody went mad at me as usual. I killed most of them off and decided to make another San Mona raid before loading again.

I expected them to shoot back, but everybody only drew guns and held fire. I thought I was just too stealthy for them to see me, but they didn't fire when I just walked straight towards them. They were all expecting me to be in the ring right now, so nobody attacked. I could just stab everybody and take the loot. Upon pressing the strategy screen button I got asked if I want to leave the fight.

So my explanation is that somehow the game didn't notice that I was no longer fighting. I didn't abort the fight properly. So the armed guys were denied shooting at me, because of some routine that prevents people from attacking you when you're punching one of them in the ring.

I tried it again, but this time they finished me off right away.

What an awkward bug. I don't know if this is due to some mod or just a game glitch. But it's an easy way to raid San Mona and it shouldn't be there. If anybody knows anything about this phenomenon, just add it here. Maybe the same thing happened to one of you? Whatever, it's almost 6 in the morning, so I'm going to do something appropriate. Like playing JA2 with those gorgeous mods. Have fun. I will.

Edit: Now my game's fucked. I've won the fight, gotten the cash, accepted another fight, quicksaved. 2 seconds later everybody turns hostile and Darren tells me I'd pay for it. And I saved right before that event. Only way out was leaving the sector, then returning again. Next bug here: All of the 3 fighters were back in position. After another "first" fight I tried leaving and returning again, but only 2 fighters were left. Would be too easily earned n*5000$ wasting a noob fighter again and again. Yet there are going to be 4 corpses in the ring.

Edit2: I reproduced the bug. Seems that saving before a fight can seriously mess up the game. But there's no consistency in it. Sometimes it works, sometimes everything goes to hell.
Edit3: I reproduced the 2nd bug as well. This time the error occurs immediately after my quicksave so no escape possible. After some quickloads the game crashed. Editedit: Mr. Speedclicker succeeded. I'm just too fast too furious.
Edit4: Now Kingpin's on the run. He walks through town as if he was a normal civilian. Needless to say he's supposed to expect me in his gaming lounge, which he isn't and he says he doesn't want to talk to me. Bottomline is: Saving is bad if done in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Edit5: Obviously, this bug seems to reoccur every time. I've started a new game, I went to San Mona again. This time I did save the game before talking to Darren. So what I have now is this:
- Saving in between fights is not a good idea, not even after the first two fights. The game seems to always get corrupted with you not being able to continue fighting.
- I managed to beat all 3 competitors to death without saving or loading. Kingpin invited me to his house. After several minutes and all of a sudden everybody went hostile, telling me that I'd regret that. Regret what? So it's either the game that's bugged or the mods.
Edit6: Now they attacked me after I had won the first fight and wanted a second opponent. This game is so not going my way. Seems like it wants me to go rampage.

I want you to tell me how saving and loading before, between, after fights work out for you. I can't remember having had this bug in the original game. But it's obvious that there is some error in some code. I use Kaerar's Single-Click Installer with Sandro's Mod (both from here, both latest).

1. it seems as if your computer is low on memorie - guicksaving with cpu at 100% produces funny redults - i Know what i'm talking about my ja-pc is a pIII with 3 x 128 mb ram.

2. use penzitrin aka ap-booster and have a doped ma-imp do the fighting - kingpin is always very impressed with his three fighters occuppying their newl bought farms in the ring :diabolical:

AP Booster is cool, I use that, too (although I usually don't need it with an expert fighter).

Low on memory... let me just open my stylish Sonata III and check if my remaining 2GB RAM are still next to my two 3GHz cores and GeForce 9800GTX... yes, my stylish RAM with chrome looking heatspreaders that came shipped with the rest of my computer which is still laughing about UT3 at highest graphic detail even with one stick of RAM removed. No, I guess it's neither the processor nor the memory. I can pack an archive, defragment my hard drive, play music and play that game simultaneously.

Even with JA2 consuming more and more power (which is cool).
