I know this is a minor thing that I can (and have) easily fixed with the XML editor, but why is the 9x39 OC-14 so LOUD when the whole point of the gun according to its own item description in-game is that it fires subsonic ammo that makes it easily suppressed? It's a small point, but it doesn't seem to make the slightest bit of sense.

I can not check it right now, but i would guess the higher value is necessary so that the sound does not reach zero or lower when using a supressor with subsonic ammo.

Groza OC-14

At around 3 minutes you can hear it shooting unsupressed, not that silent imho.

This is with supression, but you can still hear it when you stand closer, so its hard to judge what value would be justified.

Groza Oc-14 suoressed

Just use the AS-Val Smile

I thought the same when I first found one of those guns in-game. I tend to agree. The in-game version is too loud, both with and without suppressor. My game version is 4057.

The noise levels for the the 9x39 OC-14 are 72 tiles unsuppressed and 32 tiles suppressed. That does not make sense for a heavy, subsonic bullet.

In comparison, the 7.62x39 version of that OC-14 is 85 tiles unsuppressed and 38 tiles suppressed with full power ammo.

The 7.62x39 version with "cold loaded ammo" is 51 tiles unsuppressed and 22 tiles suppressed. Since the 9x39mm is by default "cold loaded" the numbers should be more along the line of 51/22.

The way loudness is calculated in game appears to be:
(Gun noise) = (Base gun noise) x (Ammo noise modifier) x (Suppressor noise modifier), rounded down.
Regular ammo modifier is 1
"cold loaded" ammo modifier is (1-0.4)=0.6
AR Suppressor modifier is (1-0.55) = 0.45

Basically what I am seeing is, the 9x39 mm "standard" ammo should have the same -40% loudness trait that the "cold loaded" ammo has. However, that would entail changing the already silent sniper rifles such as VSS to be louder to compensate.

An easier way would be to simply correct the (Base gun noise) of the OC-14A from 72 to "cold loaded" approximation of 72 x (1-0.4) = 43 tiles. When a suppressor is added, the report is further reduced to 19 tiles which makes decent sense to me. For reference, the VSS has an in-game effective noise value of 9 tiles.

The (Base gun noise) is called and is listed in weapons.xml. It can be adjusted and take effect in a saved game with no need to restart.

This change would take care of loudness for the OC-14. On the other hand, I don't know how one would accurately use that gun at it's RANGE of 350m...the bullet drop from a subsonic round would be crazy and practically impossible to judge without a specially matched scope and range finder. Not to mention forward allowance on a moving target... The effective range is probably more like 175-200 meters with such a round and simple optics. The same goes for all of this magical "cold loaded" ammo in 1.13.
