It looks good and surely appropriate for the game, but 'awesome' is something else.

And when I see that 'M15A2, caliber 3,25' and the cartoon-ish interface, I already saw enough.

It's like being a teenager in a rest home ... It is turnbased so stfu! This is bad and this is bad, dude Internet is hilarious. Sorry but i had to say this...

The graphics look decent, I think. At least there won't be any hassle with tilting/rotating the camera. Why they can't use the real names of weapons and calibers beats me, though. It's not like you had to "license" them. Reminds me of those football games without a license for the teams' and players' names. I remember playing with "Klinkmanns" and "Matthauser" on the national team back in the 90s - hilarious...
And as much as I dislike Browser Games in general - at least they're turn-based, as Peal mentioned. Would be ironic if simply due to the technical limitations of the engine, the browser version turned out to be the superior new JA...

You'll get to play it soon enough.
And yes i meant User Inferace, but i suppose it would work for a simple move and shoot combat.

AI will suck, there no point in pointing that out. Unless we can play PvP i doubt there will be any real good challenge.

As one of the producrs for the game, let me say a few words:
1) AI will run on a seperate server dedicated to it- so while it will never be as good as a human, we hope it should be pretty decent and at least on par with any offline game.
2) The UI is placeholder art, as we don't have a final UI yet. However I would love to hear from you guys what you think is good or bad about it - we are very open to discussion. And while we may not always fulfil every wish of the community at all times, we are surely going to seriously think about every suggestion.
3) We will offer co-op PvE and PvP shoud follow shortly.

The game visuals have a lot to do with ligthing- and that isn't final by far. That being said, the graphic quality is going to be limited due to it being a browser game. But we always thought gameplay is the more important aspects- or why would there be so many people playing JA2 1.13? Not for the graphics, I assume?

And no, we are not in closed beta by far...the amount of work is massive with us doing over 100 missions and maps, more than 80 mercs and an AI server.

By the way- we do have crouch and run and walk Wink

I think it should definitely be textured in some way, so it looks like an actual "object" and has some depth, not like a glossy interface theme for an operating system. Oh, and lose that weird shade of green, JA calls for something more "earthy" Wink

Welcome to BP, Jan.

First off, I'd like to mention the fact that Cliffhanger tried to get the JA2 modding community involved in their project from day 0. Behind the scenes there have been some talks, but with disappointing feedback from US, not them. So don't confuse them with the JA2:R team, which stepped on everyone's toenails.

I always like to see devs come to the people, not wait for the people to come to them for feedback. Sometimes living on this forum can be harsh, but hey... best truth is the one said without any sugar.

Thank you for the welcome Shanga - I fully expect the forum to be our most outspoken critics. The people here have invested tons of work in making JA2 1.13 and a number of cool mods, so they will of course have an opinion on many issues - especially if we choose a different way to do things.

We do indeed have a different approach from the JA:R project, as we want to be as close to the original as possible (while remaining accessible to new players). That being said, we do have budgetary and time restraints that may prevent us from doing so on launch. However we will continue to work on the project (at least if anyone decides to actually pay money in the game, so it becomes profitable), so there are always opportunities to add features later on.

What I ask from the community is a fair chance - knowing full well, JA has been treated badly by publisgers in the past - and don't condemn the game just becase it is online or you dislike one aspect.

Looking forward to more frutiful discussions.
Jan

At the moment, there is not enough material online to turn this discussion here into healthy and constructive feedback.

Judging from only those screenshots can be misleading.

One more thing: If there is crouching, then there should be barrels, boxes, bushes .. stuff to take cover. Those are tactical positions adding more depth to the gameplay - i cannot see them on the screens. There is a lot of open empty space. I guess what i wanna try to say is, there is no screenshot here i can see potential awesome fights!

If you look an the gunrox screenshots, even the game is pretty bad, there is always stuff to hide.

oh, we have plenty of cover opportunities - cars, boxes, bushes (though they only afford hiding space, not cover), barrels (at least those, that don't explode).
There will be also added tactical depth through some skills which support certain styles of gameplay. So it may become a viable option to create a highly armored assault merc, who can take a lot of damage and close range to the enemy as well as a sniper guy shooting from behind the lines.
But of course the current screens don't give much detail. As soon as we can release more, I am hoping things will become more apparent.

All i want from Jagged Alliance Online is, that it is better then total influence and gunrox, then I'm fine Smile
In those games you cannot crouch/run, so on browsergames it is not standard! Thats why I'm happy already, cause JAO leaves a damn good impression on me!

Even the GFX are looking better than in JA BIA! Because i don't like neon color marker surrounding my mercs and i don't need full 3D when there is no destructible environment or a good camera movement with an option to hide treetops...

So hell yes, JAO is my game!

Actually full 3D is beneficial for ballistics more than anything. Making sprites is also more time consuming than animation of 3D avatars, again performance boost for 3D over 2D. Also there are a few 3D engines about that allow 3D in browser without serious performance issues. Here's to hoping Smile

I'm hoping there is a 3D engine powering this, and that the mechanics are enough to cope with relatively good ballistic calculations (so enough weapon variables to not end up like Call of Duty's lame attempt).

The only thing that is a little worrying to me is the linear nature hinted at by the 100 missions mention. I know it's where Jagged Alliance has it's roots but I also much prefer the non-linear game that Jagged Alliance 2 became (not Unfinished Business).

We are using Unity 3D, so yes, we have a full 3D engine, although some of the finer modern visual effects will be missing due to performance restraints in the browser.

Missions does not mean linear - it just means that there are several areas of conflict (we call them contracts) you can chose from and some of them unlock through progress (but then you didn't attack the Palace with your initial team in JA2, I would assume)

So we do have an map with sectors like in JA2, or more a landscape with some Icons like in Hired Guns?

Are you working for gamigo or bitComposer? I was just wondering, because we never heard from gamigo any news on the project, expect this facebook page. But if i rub my nose, it feels like there will be a big update on the JAO section of the site very soon Smile

We have a world map (remember, there needs to be plenty of space for new missions in an online game) and on this are "contract" symbols, which will then give you a mission screen where you select the missions for that contract.

We are working for gamigo (we used to work for bc, but then gamigo directly took the lead for the online game). And I am sufre they will do more once we are closer to the release- browser games usually do not have the same lead in time as offline games regarding PR and marketing
