Who's bright idea was that?

Was playing the "demo", actually kinda enjoying the tutorial, start up the game and...

Oh shizzit. You arn't in the game. Only AIM mercs

Glad I didn't go with my initial impression and buy the game XD

That was probably my biggest letdown so far. I've already bought the game and will be starting it tonight. Hopefully it will still be fun enough without my own custom merc, although that is a huge detractor.

I am madly in Anger with the devs!

No IMP, really ugly inventory, really ugly faces, really messed up chars.

There will never be a company who will produce a real Jagged Alliance.

Thank god for 1.13-Modders

I cannot believe they didn't at least add the IMP. I can get over the fugly faces and the inventory images but I don't think they understood the things about JA2 that made it as great as it is. Sigh.

I do miss the IMPS. They were a good way to learn the numbers behind a merc and almost free firepower. I also miss weekly wages on the mercs I do get. No sense of urgeny in my rebellion as of yet.

Yup. I tried again last night, no go

I hadn't realized it, but being able to create a character of your own really upped the immersion... and not having my six man imp strike team just makes it unplayable.

That and the fact that all the AIM's have the facial features of cow dung. didn't think that would bug me either, but it does.

I never created more than one IMP character, though the free firepower was tempting. For me, it was about representing "me" in-game through my own avatar. Without that, it definitely loses quite a bit of immersion.

After the horrible interface/controls/camera killing the game tactically and the almost non-existence of strategic elements the biggest problem with BiA is the lack of immersion. Without someone representing "me" in game my interest level drops a lot. Mercs lacking personality makes the sense of immersion drop even more as I don't care as much about them. Since you don't actually hire mercs and you don't have to renew contracts any sense of urgency is killed. You add all those problems together and I simply can't care about what happens in game.

Luckily 1.13 is simply amazing.

There is a tool that let's you turn any ingame merc to hire into an IMP for those of you that ever dreamed of "being Gus Tarballs" ... :
